Indianola Records is busy: Odd Project’s The Second Hand Stopped is selling well. Give it a listen. The Across Five Aprils EP hits stores on September 14th. Glory of This (who got some press in AP and SPIN) has a CD out November 16th.
MakebreakRecords is moving to Seattle. All CD’s (including the awesome Chris Staples CD) are now $8.99 so hit that up.
T&N emails us, “Underoath, Stretch Armstrong, and The Chariot announce ‘Get Awesome’ Tour.” Says Underoath bassist Grant Brandell, “After a grueling but fun summer outdoors, we can’t wait to go back to the clubs where the sound is good and we don’t have to play during other bands’ sets.” Check out the Underoath site for tour dates.
HXC.com points us to a preview of the new Bury Your Dead. They’re going for the whole gangster theme, and playing up the whole, “we killed someone, now we need to cover our tracks.” The name of the album, Cover Your Tracks, is due out October 19th on Victory Records. The Bury Your Dead website hasn’t updated their news section since July 31st. Boo.
Reliant K’s new album named, get this, mmhmm, will be out on November 2nd. This is the first album in a series of five albums. The others will be called hmmm, grrrr, haha, and hehe.
The hipsters at Pitchfork Media review Jet’s single “Cold Hard Bitch” I like it. They say, “Too bad Jet appear to honestly enjoy the uncool music they’re playing. Don’t you hate that?” Enjoying what you do to pay the rent. That’s a new concept.
Jade Tree Records has signed Loved Ones. Their Jade Tree debut will be at CBGB’s at the CMJ New Music Festival on October 16th. Apparently the band has been playing Chicago clubs since May and features members of The Curse, Kid Dynamite and Trial by Fire. Now if only they had a better name.
Coolfer reports on music in the digital realm, linking to articles about HP’s version of the iPods (get stickers to ad a personal touch and decrease the sexyness) and Microsofts bid to take down iTunes. I know Microsoft is big and powerful and all, but I can’t see how this would work unless they offer music files for less then $0.99, that work on all/majority of platforms, and have a wide variety of indie and major label artists.
The Dillinger Escape Plan (the new album is so good) video for “Panasonic Youth” has made it’s way online. Yippee. I’ll watch that sucker once I get out of work and done with classes. [Rock ThePrp]
Did anyone watch the VMA’s? I didn’t. Apparently Gawker was lucky unlucky enough. Check out their witty/cynical as always review to read about what you didn’t miss. Remember last year when The Hives played? Me neither. I skipped it then too.
Deerhoof will be going on tour. Go see them. You can see them with either Wilco, The Decemberists, Br Danielson, and The Advantage. Tour dates are where I found them.
RockCritics Daily hooked me (you, your neighbor, the punk kid down the street who reads this site thus making him loose dozens of scene points) up with a link to an article called “I Hate 1984.” It’s a collection of memories of pop culture and life back in the day. Back in the day when I was born. Quick, read the article now before someone gets smart and puts it in nice, weighty, fits in my messenger bag, hardcover book.
Yea, I changed the title and added a new link. It’s because I can.
Tooth and Nails showbread has an MP3 on PureVolume. It’s an unmasterd track (which is odd), to be included on their October 19th release, No Sir, Nihilsm Is Not Practical.
Neshamah has a new track called, temporary satisfaction of desires (right click > save as). Be sure to get your mosh on to this track, I guess.
Somehow Dead Poetic [Mp3’s] got themselves a headlining tour. They will be heading out in October/November on unannounced dates with unannounced bands in support. Sounds like a grand ole time.
