Boston Beatdown Film Makers to be Charged

Makers of the controversial films “Boston Beatdown” are expected to be indicted by Boston Police soon. The film is a documentary style film about the Boston hardcore scene and has scenes in which fights and “beatdowns” occur among other non violent footage. The films have sold over 5000 copies since their release in June. Police told the Boston Herald “It’s revenge of the nerds, they reek of violence. The sickening thing about it is someone is profiting from this.”

Police have put the blame on director, named only as Ronin, for the content of the film. The filmaker states that he simply is documenting a very real scene and that it is meant to educate people to what goes on in the Boston hardcore scene. “None of the fights were staged,” Ronin argued. “There were no victims who were random targets. They were drunk bullies and people who knew they deserved it. The message is actually quite positive. It’s about respecting yourself.”

Police have also suggested that F.S.U., a Hardcore community with members nationwide, are responsible for the violence as well. A spokesperson for F.S.U said “Boston Beatdown, is not representative at all” of what most of them stand for.” he contunied “They all just want to have a good time, No one’s supposed to get hurt.”

Whether or not this leads to jail time for the filmakers or not, i think people should see the tapes before making a judgement as too if they are criminal. Violence is never good whether at shows or not, however, film and documentation is also an artform and is it right to punish those who make it? Just a thought.

Strike First at The Showdown if you look like an Asterik

Strike First Records has announced the signing of two more bands, Clear Convictions and Opposition Of One.

Neither of are from America. [Source, lambgoat]

Pastepunk has a review of the new Showdown album here, saying “The amount of talent shown by this band is ridiculous”. I whole heartedly agree.

Finally, those jerks over in Seattle have the chance early next year to take a ten week course on Web Design for the Music Industry, presented by the mighty Asterik Studio. Bask in your glow Seattlites, you’ll rue the day.

Sinai Beach to Abacus?

Underoath loves cats, Jade Tree Perorders, and White Stripes DVD

Oh look - Underoath is all about the PETA / anti- Iams (that dog and cat food company). Says guitarist Tim McTague, “I don’t think anyone or any animal or any human or any type of anything would want to be treated cruelly.” In an interview that has nothing to do with PETA, Tim also says, “as far as kids saying we’ve sold out…kids like that just like to talk.”

The first 100 people to preorder Jade Tree’s new Strike Anywhere, TO LIVE IN DISCONTENT, will win, “poster & sticker set and one such lucky winner* will receive a free pair of tickets and a set of backstage passes to meet the band on their next US tour. (*US Residents only)” I’m posting this hella late, so you might not be one of the first 100.

Warm up your DVD players (or not), because the White Stripes (remember them?) have a DVD coming out. View the White Stripes Trailer (Quicktime required) and if you like it, pick it up on December 8th.

Ron Artest no P Diddy

E! Online says Ron Artest (that guy that used to play basketball for the Pacers) doesn’t know how to promote as well as P.Diddy. The release from Allure hasn’t really done all that well:

“Tower Records in Washington, D.C, reported just three discs sold out of 15 in stock Tuesday evening. The chain’s Portland, Oregon, store said that not one Allure disc sold in its first day out.”

Boy, with this much publicity surrounding Mr. Suspended-for-the-year you’d think a few more units would’ve moved.
