And the award for Worst-Dressed band at the San Antonio Warped Tour stop: Emery. Writes Ramon Ramirez, “There was no explanation for why the entire band wore Fubu basketball jerseys and had a Fisher Price basketball goal on stage.”
Good write-up on Schoolyard Heroes. Writes Rod Smith, “Consistent cliché avoidance and measure-to-measure micro-theatrics are the wood and nails of the band’s stairway to perdition.”
According to Billboard.com, “Starbucks has nabbed the exclusive first rights to sell “Bob Dylan: Live at the Gaslight 1962,” an album of newly restored live recordings culled from Dylan’s performances at the New York cafe.”
The release has been a popular bootleg for quite some time but is only officially being released now. It contains very early recording of “Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” and “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright.”
Also, the Martin Scorsese’s “No Direction Home,” a Dylan biography, will premiere on PBS’s American Masters in late September. Look for the soundtrack to be released in August.
I was reading one of the glossy music magazines the other day (Revolver, or something else, I forget) and there was an interview with Avenged Sevenfold. Along with naked chicks draped on them for the photoshoot every other quote from them was like, “We like chicks! And drugs! And beer!” It was almost like that Bane commerical parody (”yelling and screaming!”), but this was like, real. They mentioned how if you want to hang out on tour bring a chick and beer or something. These guys are pure rock and roll, man! But wait, a retraction?
Interview from the Kansas City Star (6/24/2005)
ZV: Yeah, we get misquoted a lot. Figured we’d just start throwing some out there. They’re going to say we do a bunch of drugs anyway, we might as well tell them we do.NF: So is that untrue, or…?
SG: It’s…what they say about us are lies. What they say that we say are lies.
Secrets and lies! Secrets and lies!
Thank thePRP for this one: some videos of The Agony Scene and Dillinger Escape Plan. Get on that junk.
And what’s going on here? Bayside doing a Counting Crows cover? What’s next? Guys in bands wearing makeup?
Miss the AP’s 20th anniversary party in LA? It’s coming to Cleveland with Story Of The Year, Coheed And Cambria, mewithoutYou, Paris Texas, Rock & Roll Soldiers, and a ton more for $25.
Yay! Looks like Nike is giving into pressure put on by Dischord Records and its legions of fans. As Gawker puts it, “Now that that’s resolved, can we maybe devote the same sort of focus to, say, that whole sweatshop issue?”
Who wants MIA’s Galang on 12″ vinyl? If that’s you, enter the Fader contest for a chance to win. Tell ‘em Buzzgrinder sent ya. Or not.
For you tech geeks out there: iTunes 4.9 is out now, and it supports PodCasting. If you don’t know what PodCasting is, its like, recorded radio shows that you download to your computer, usually in MP3 format. Then you listen on your computer, burn to CD, or transfer to your portable MP3 player. Neat, huh?
Oh yea, and the Supreme Court ruled in favor of MGM in the whole MGM vs. Grokster thing. Basically a P2P company can’t promote their applications by saying, “Download all your fave music!”
Last night a bit of the south invaded NYC. Southren rock-inspired speed metal (or whatever you want to call it and fight about), head banging, and pocket knives - it all made for an awesome (though short) set by The Showdown. Singer David Bunton joked about how NYC drivers honk too much, and in the south if you honk at someone they get out of the car and fight you. He also said he would body slam someone if they didn’t start dancing. Come on - how cool is that? BODY SLAM?!
Their drummer is like, Henry Rollins big. The guitars are all over the place. Their bassist, Eric Koruschak, could be a Krist Novoselic stunt-double. You really need to see The Showdown. They’re a pile-driver of a good time (that’s another pro-wrestling term for ya).
Aversion.com has reported that former drummer Jimmy Chamberlain “told the Chicago Tribune that he’d pledged his allegiance to the (Smashing Pumkins) reunion.” Looks like this could be a possibility after all.
A brief Q&A was posted on Mercury News with George Lucas in which he talks about George Bush, Tech, and where his career is heading now that Star Wars is done.
Lucas also opened up a spankin’ new headquarters in California.

If you are a fan of music generator/sequencer programs check out Beaterator from Rockstar Games. The program is hosted through their website and is completely free. You can use their samples or upload some from your hard drive and it also will allow you to download your mixes as well. Pretty sweet. (Got This From Digg)
