My inbox runneth over:
thePRP reports that the Red Chord has parted ways w/one of their guitarists and no one knows why…
someone posted a video of Between The Buried and Me preforming their new song “Alaska” live. [Thanks, Ben]
A new Andrew W.K. track. [Link, Decoy Music]
Jason Morehead reviews History Invades - The Structure Of A Precise Fashion, saying, “Within the album’s 10 tracks, one can hear everything from Bloc Party’s wiry post-punk stylings to Roadside Monument’s precise math-rock layouts, with a hint or two of an OK Computer-esque outlook on modern society, alienation, and consumerism thrown in for good measure.”
Altpress says of Underoath, “Furious but not frustrated; Christian but not clear-cut; fun-loving but not f’d up.” Frustrated? Not clear-cut? What heck is that supposed to mean? Do they mean clean-cut? Isn’t clear-cut some lumberjack term?
In all seriousness, good for them. Lots of folks give these guys crap, but at least they’re out there playing shows and enjoying the midwest Warped Tour shows.
[Thanks, Scotty]
Though a decent review in Pitchfork seems to get indie record owners and small-time bands smile like giddy little school girls, there’s no denying that half your friends don’t even know Pitchfork exists. Says Coolfer Glenn, “Pitchfork’s party is closed — and closeminded.”
Some bands have new MP3’s posted. Some label signed a new band. Blah blah blah.
But freaking Horse the Band broke a sprinkler stem in a hotel room, flooded three rooms, and caused $5000 worth of damage. And they got some of it on tape. [Link, Quitmyscene]
The Chicago Lollapalooza had this minor issue of stages being too close to one another. So when Brian Jonestown Massacre was playing, well, “Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba kept overpowering the Massacre’s sound from another stage across the park.” Anton Newcombe (singer of Brian Jonestown Massacre) finally shot back, “Hey, Bon Jovi, why don’t you shut the **** up over there?” Classic.
Denison Witmer once did a cover of Graham Nash’s “Simple Man.” It was surely a fitting cover, since “simple man” is a perfect description of him. Witmer is an ordinary guy, finding he is. And that’s the very reason so many people, since the release of “Safe Away” in 1998 have been drawn to his music. “Safe” is about as simple as you get. The only sounds used are Witmer’s lush acoustic guitar strokes, raspy voice and the sleepy electric guitar of Don Peris, the singer/songwriter from The Innocence Mission. But the minimalism worked beautifully. They carried us into the passenger seat of a car heading to New York City late at night, talking endlessly with the
beautiful girl behind the wheel as “Miles” and time pass quickly by up. They allowed us to share the lament of seeing a “best buddy” move to the other side of the country on the track “Steven.” It was and still is a beautiful album. And though he’s made some great ones since, none compared to that one. Until now.

Caldwell - Accidental Renovation
One of those high-energy, snotty, agressive mixings of hardcore, punk, and the occasional pretty singy part. Add a few metal-ish riffs here and there, some screams. I think I can copy-and-paste this review for the next 3000 CD’s like this that I get in the mail.
The Kirby / Blueprint Car Crash Split CD
Loose and fresh, janggling quitars, and frantic, all over the place songs - two busy bands scheming to awaken your senses. Planned delivery, Mars Volta - vibes, and weird song titles, its all here.
Isle of View - Gentle Firefly Radio
Intersting melodies for a pop-punk release. Reminds me of Stairwell.
This Moment - Finding a Voice in the Dark
Good hearted stompy break downs, double bass, with the occasional nod to mid 90’s hardcore roots. A few pretty-ish singing parts, but the mosh-core parts make up for it.
Tom Wehrle - Room to Dream
Bouncy piano rock, electronical beeps and whirrs, solid drums, all glossed over with breathy, crisp melodies.
The single, Bat Country (iTunes song link), will be the next track from Avenged Sevenfold to get major airplay, according to ThePRP.
Official Palehorse Statement at HXC.com. John Tamas of the band died.
Well, everyone else is posting it: Head Automatica has cancelled their upcoming tour with Finch due to illness of lead singer Daryl Palumbo. [DrivenFarOff, thePRP]
