Holy crap; New Orleans must be evacuated. Over 100 people dead. Billions in damage. Looting. Skip a CD purchase or Starbucks today and donate.
Got this from Largeheartedboy: Lucy (of the Peanuts gang) lashes back at Pitchfork.
The fine folk at Plastic (the site that inspired the creation of Buzzgrinder) are discussing the perfect album; an album that’s solid all the way though - no filler. My faves:
Zao, Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest
Crutch, Admist Despair, Hope Prevails
Faith No More, Angel Dust
Jimmy Eat World, Clarity
Elliott Smith, Figure 8
Primus, Frizzle Fry
Jets to Brazil, Four Cornered Night
Tora!Tora!Torrance!, Get Into It
Helmet, Meantime
Christiansen, Stylish Nihilists
Tantrum of the Muse, The Heart it a Two Headed Sperm
Now that I’ve opened myself up to public shame and/or ridicule, list your own faves.
An arm injury to guitarist Ben Weinman forces the Dillinger Escape Plan to leave the GIGANTOUR. Meanwhile, plenty of chugg-chugg-wee-wee bands continue to fill mid-size clubs. [Link, ThePRP]
In a Myspace blog entry, The Kick informed us all that they aren’t necessarily breaking up, but they will no longer be playing under the name “The Kick.” Lewis, Erich Jackson, John Fortson and Izzy are now writing and performing under the name Gasoline Heart. Once we find out where you can hear some of the new music they’re working on, you’ll be the first to know. Actually, you’ll probably be a little further down the line… more like 5th or something.
According to this article Alicia Keys has resurected MTV Unplugged, which is funny cause I distinctly remember Dashboard Confessional doing the same thing a few years ago.
From Demonhunter.net:
“Demon Hunter’s third album, “The Triptych,” arrives October 25th. Produced by Aaron Sprinkle (Emery) and mixed by Machine (Lamb Of God), the album will be available for a limited time with three different covers, each of them painted by Dan Seagrave (Morbid Angel).
Felony charges have been dropped against the “Kutztown 13,” a group of students from a Kutztown, Pennsylvania who chose to alter their school-provided Apple iBooks to their liking by bypassing security mesures and adding iChat and other programs. According to Wired Magazine the charged were brought up due to the students “..bypassing security with school-issued laptops, downloading forbidden internet goodies and using monitoring software to spy on district administrators.”
Parents of course were outraged at this citing that no malicious behavior was going on and that they just out-smarted the schools IT department. However, the schoolboard responds that ” ..it reported the students to police only after detentions, suspensions and other punishments failed to deter them from breaking school rules governing computer usage. “
The Wired article goes on to describe how the cops and felony charges ended up being brought up. The charges have since been dropped and the 13 got a deal offered. Although This Week In Tech reports that some are refusing the deal because they feel they have broken no laws.
