The Runs – Wet Sounds
Buzzgrinder isn’t known for their exaustive coverage of punk music, which is more a reflection on my musical preference than anything else. I could never get past the “we’re piss poor from spending our money on beer” production, or the fact that I played in a band that loved doing Misfits covers back in 1993. Yucko.
So now that I ruined whatever cred I might have had to give Wet Sounds an objective review, well… I know some people out there love these guys, and this style. I mean, you got banging drums, a steady flow of mid-rangeless quitar, and some off-key singing here and there, but it’s all good. This is raw stuff ( I don’t think there’s any ProTool production here), in a sense this is the way it should be. I think all the studio slick albums we’ve been hearing these past few years has spoiled us. Or not. Maybe.
If you like your punk about punk, beers and lo-fi studio recordings, well, The Runs could be your thing.
