Horrible. Absolutely horrible. I saw them the other day on TV, with their aviators and their $200 jeans made to look beat up and old, and then I heard their music, and I’m like “How do kids like this stuff? This stuff is absolutely horrible.”

If you were to follow the CMJ and FMQB charts you’d be surprised the overwhelming reception they received in regards to their former album Miss Machine. They may not be the common household name on such channels as MTV and VH1, but it’s common to hear their music playing in the background of some popular reality shows like the Real World and Road Rules. One noteable track is Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants.
Now in regards to all the slander, if what Dillinger said is true and it is causing such a stir among the Avenged Sevenfold fanbase then their motives were achieved (if by any means this was their intention) — they’ve received publicity and attention no matter which way it comes. So as long as people continue to refute the conflict, more people will be eager to check them out, hear their sound, and then decide whether they’re worth to praise or disrespect.

The Dillinger Escape Plan is a band thats been around for awhile now. They play highly technical music. Their style and Avenged Sevenfolds are not similar enough to be compared. Dillinger Escape Plan is much better at their instruments then Avenged… Dillinger is a very technically great band. Avenged… write pop metal songs that are easy enough on the ears to be played on the radio. It’s a different in style. Just remember being played on the radio doesn’t make you good. Being amazing at your instrument doesn’t mean you write good songs.

Not just based on mood. I know some people who listen to metal which doesn’t reflect their mood at all. Metal is aggressive and powerful yet most often melodic. I know many metal fans who are not power-agressive people, but they do have vast knowledge of music itself.I hope this explanation will give you a better understanding of music tastes. P.S. A7x is not metal nor do I think they make good melodies. But thats just my musically inclined opinion.

I never changed my mind. IN MY OPINION, they are worse than Europe, but that’s degrading to Europe who at least wrote “The Final Countdown.” I’m not backing down at all because I still feel, while decently talented, Avenged Sevenfold are pretty awful.
In addition, Dillinger has much more talent…I mean, listen to their song structuring. also, their drummer is a goddamn calculator in terms of playing in different time signatures.
What it comes down to is if you want something new and challenging to listen to, you pick up “Calculating Infinity.” Or if you want something that you’ve heard a dozen times before (complete with Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Melodic Bridge-Solo-Verse-Chorus), then you can pick up “City of Evil.”

Since Dave Mustaine is getting on in years and the past few Dream Theater albums have been duds, I’d say the only redeeming factor of the Gigantour was Dillinger ripping shit up with music that was extremely unique and unlike anyone else on the bill. granted, the middle aged metal dorks didn’t like it, but then again, those are the same close minded people that boo any band that isn’t Megadeth or Slayer.
