Mae Signs to Capitol Records

According to CMJ, Mae is both a “Capitol recording artist and Tooth And Nail recording artist,” though the Capitol Records site doesn’t mention this.

Remeber that big discussion we had on here on time over T&N’s claim that no band has ever left T&N for a major and sold more records there….

i don’t think that’s what it was… i think they said that they’ve never dropped a band that has gone on to sell more records post-T&N.

Didn’t Mxpx’s “Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo” sell a ton of copies? Other than that, the arguement does hold pretty true.

So they’ve moved from an EMI subsidiary to an EMI subsidiary. What exactly is the difference?

Project 86 was on Atlantic and Tooth and Nail at the same time. Andrew talks about how much it sucked in one of his books.

They’ve already changed for the worse. Have you heard The Everglow? It’s a decent album, but is nothing when put next to Destination: Beautiful.

i’ve got to disagree with that. d:b was a great record, but the everglow is just on a totally different level for me. i’ve heard that from a lot of people, though. you either love the everglow or you really don’t like it. either way, i’m stoked to hear what their next record sounds like.

MxPx best selling record is acutally “Let it Happen,” which is 30 some B-Sides and such. I was surprised when I found out that it sold best, but it also retailed for 9.99 or less and had a lot of songs on it.
I think one thing that a major does that Tooth and Nail doesn’t really seem to do is push video more. Tooth and Nail always gets videos made, but they don’t seem to do a good job getting them serviced.

Good for Mae… Hopefully they won’t take it up the cornhole like a lot of other bands that have made the shift.

[...] Some News: Rumour has it that Mae has been signed to Capitol Records. (Via Absolutepunk) I’m proud of these guys — I’ve got both of their LPs and and the music is all good. It’ll be interesting to see what they come up with for their new album (they’re currently writing/recording). But it’ll be nice to see these guys get some more widespread recognition. They’ve got talent and deserve it. [...]

first off Mae are some amazing talented guys. I played a couple shows with them on their first and second tours when they came through pittsburgh. They wont change shit. Trust me. And both albums are equally amazing in their own way. Dave elkins is truly an amazing optimistic writer and i cant wait to see what they come out with.

[...] MAE haben angeblich bei Capitol Records (u.a. Coldplay, Relient-K usw.) unterschrieben. [...]

It’s true. I talked with a friend from J records who tryed to sign them. But alas, they’ve been on Capital for a few months now.

I think Capitol has done a wonderful job promoting Relient K. Both RK and their manager has said that the label has NOT asked them to change who they are or to compromise. I have seen a lot of major labels just sit on bands they sign. I am not seeing that from Capitol, and they seem to allow them to stay with their previous smaller label as well. Personally, I couldn’t be happier.
As for the Everglow, that was before Capitol, and I happen to think it is as good or better than Destination: Beautiful. I love both, though.

Its definitely official. I spoke just yesterday with Rob at a concert in VB. He said that mae signed back in January to Capitol. Im not sure how its gonna work out. The good news is that Capitol did a great job with Relient K. I hope Mae gets the same type of royal treatment.

Jordan tells the truth. I’m pretty sure everyone will agree that Funeral of God is their definitely worst album, and they lost most of their fans with the release of it.
As for Capitol, yeah they’ve done a great job with Relient K, so I’m assuming Mae will get good treatment as well.

whoa whoa whoa I never said Funeral of God was Zao’s worst release. They are all equally awful. Their Mom just has a really really big basement and really really deep pockets.
