The tightly knit independent rock scene in northern Indiana has given birth to yet another great project called Rodeo Ruby Love. The album Your Love Has Made Everything Beautiful is a showcase for songwriter Zachary Melton of Away With Vega and features an interesting cast of others.
Melton and company include enough eclectic touches to make their music break the monotony that plagues most modern day acoustic projects. Glockenspiel, Melodica and even what sounds to be a can of pressurized air are utilized giving the album quite a unique feel. Also, the vocal trade offs between Melton and a female contributor make them album even more fun and interesting. There are a few nice mid tempo numbers but the disc truly shines on the joyous cuts like Small House In The City. While driving with the disc I would catch myself playing Small House.. over and over repeatedly as if it was musical crack.
Aside from a few minor production wrinkles this is a solid album that is worthy of your attention. Melton’s clever lyricism and fun music make this a very appealing piece of work. A source at their label tells me a follow-up to this album will go in to production in August with no release date set as of this review. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.
