On their upcoming tour, mewithoutYou will once again be hosting pre-concert potlucks. The group will also invite musically inclined fans to jam with them if they bring a “non guitar” instrument to the event. The following quote is from the band:
” … we would regrettably like to restrict the invitation to those who are competent enough to play a non-guitar instrument keeping proper time and, if you’re making tones, in tune. that is to say, we spent a lot of time writing/practicing/recording these songs so please don’t come up if you have no musical experience …”
A DJ at Chicago’s Q101 felt the wrath of Jack White after she played a leaked copy of The White Stripes’ Icky Thump on air. After hearing of her actions, White placed an angry call to the station’s offices.
” … Jack asked me to take responsibility for leaking the record, and asked if I was sorry for what I’d done. … We tried to explain where we were coming from - someone gave us a copy of a record that we were really excited to play, and the whole experience was an hour-long lovefest for him and his band - but he wasn’t having it. He hung up, very, very angry, and I thought I was going to cry. …”

Rodeo Ruby Love, a side project from Away With Vega’s Zachary Melton, follow up 2006’s Your Love Has Made Everything Beautiful with the release of What Loneliness Can Do To You. For the most part, each track possesses a fun vibe similar to the group’s Small House In The City, but the album isn’t without its somber moments. It seems that even some of the upbeat tracks deal with weighty lyrical themes. As he did with Your Love …, Melton sticks to the acoustic guitar as his main instrument, but incorporates banjos, jaw harp, cello and ukulele as well. Doing so gives the album a more eclectic and mature feel than the previous album. The non-polished production, handled by Husband & Wife’s Mike Adams, is another one of the album’s endearing aspects. Had the record been too pristine, it would have lost some of its appeal. Melton’s clever lyrics, enthusiastic vocals and pop hooks possess a charm many will find irresistible.

From the “This is a mainstream media publication?” department comes this review of Southern Weather, by The Almost, written by high school senior Tricia Callahan:
“Overall, the album’s clear-cut direction is not really amusing or impressive. My suggestion would be to download a couple songs before deciding whether to buy the album.”
Got that? Just go ahead and download some songs, to sample, before buying the album. I’m sure the RIAA will appreciate that coming from a professional online publication.
