Tool Do Their Longest Interview Ever

Metal Edge Magazine’s September issue is featuring what Tool considers to be their longest interview ever.

Howard Stern has been keeping me out of his studio for years. I’m not even in New York, and he’s talking about how I’m in the lobby, wanting to come up to talk to him, and he says, “Get that guy outta here!” And I’m in L.A.

Jens Lekman Hates Myspace

Swedish indie star Jens Lekman weighs in on the internet:

As an entertainer, he’s keen to communicate directly with his fans. He abandoned MySpace earlier this year as “dumb and meaningless”; instead, he tries to email personally everyone who contacts him.

Geeking Out With Adam and Dave’s Bloodine

What cell phone/cellular service do you use?
I use Verizon, some of the other guys have different services.

Do you like it?
Yeah, sure.

Why or why not?
Well… it has a decent GPS navigator system on it that saves us from some late night fights when no one would be able to figure out where we’re supposed to go. We just obey the magic phone.

What’s your dream phone?
Um… one that is also an ATM. A free ATM.

What (if any) computers do you take on tour with you?
We have not reached that level of high-techness yet. We’re more internet cafe/let us come to your house computer users.

Any Computer Games?
Wow! Computer games! I never even thought of that. I have Tetris on my phone! Ever hear of that? It’s where these little blocks fall from the top, and you spin them around…

What is one application on your computer you just cant live without while on the road?
I’ve used Garage Band before and it was awesome. But we’re pretty far from having computers.

What video consoles and games do you or your band-mates play while on tour?
None! Well, Tetris.

What other gadgets do you use (eg: PDA,GPS, Digital camera, Digital video camera, iPod, Zune, etc.)?
Two of us have iPods which is amazing… all the better to have tons of music on hand. I have a digital camera but I always forget to take photos with it. I get stuck in the moment a little to much to take time to document it.

Do you watch TV/Movies on tour?
Uh… no. Well maybe in a hotel. But those are few and far between.

What shows can you absolutely not miss?
I love The Wire and No Reservations… but I tend to miss everything when I’m on the road. It’s great to not have to think about internets or TV or anything like that. If you need to know something, management will call!

What movies are you loving right now?
I think Children of Men was amazing. Came out last year. Also Pan’s Labyrinth was great.

What needs to be plugged?
Our new s/t album Adam and Dave’s Bloodline was just released. It’s available on iTunes and on our website

Battles Not Into Math Rock

Bassist Dave Konopka of Battles rips math rock:

“Math rock is braniac music that’s devoid of feeling because it’s invested in making something oddly timed. The majority of our songs are in common times, but because we have such off-kilter melodies, people say ‘It’s kinda weird, so it must be math rock.’

“We’re not into being called math rock…it’s a cheap label.”
