Featured Band: Sky Eats Airplane

Sky Eats Airplane is a Texas Electronica/Hardcore outfit that has only recently become a full band, recording their entire debut album, Everything Perfect on the Wrong Day, as a humble two-piece. Pretty impressive. It won’t be long before some label comes and snags these guys.

It’s been crazy watching them grow like they have. Oh and the dude up front, Zach, plays guitar better then you’ve ever done anything, ever.

Actually, technically genre wise they are not a hardcore band. if you’re using “hard-core” as a description of how hard their music is that’s one thing but they are not a hardcore band. Hardcore bands you may be familiar with are bands like Comeback Kid, Terror, or Hatebreed and the bands that influenced them. Not saying they aren’t a great band or aren’t hard as nails when they wanna be but they aren’t a hardcore band.

Emo is in fact a genre of music of bands such as American Football, Rites of Spring, etc.

Bands like Sky Eats Airplane are merely trendy, gimmicky poseurs targeted to guys who wear girls pants and brush their hair to the side / girls who have dyke mullets and wear “skinny” jeans with flats.

Try senior in college my friend. Gotta love the kids who’s only putdowns are asking them if they’re in middle/high school. But, I guess at least they try.

I was merely stating the fact that everyone always uses to prefix “nu-” in an attempt to demean a band or put them down. I’ve heard it used in other genres as well such as
“nu-hardcore”, “nu-black”, and “nu-indie”. I KNOW what emo is and I wasn’t trying to say that they are emo. Realistically, I would say that they are more post-hardcore than anything. Also, I don’t see how they’re trendy. Maybe fashion-wise, but musically…no.

BUT I will say that some of their stuff is pretty fraggin’ good. The jazz interlude on the Bonnie song is five star. But don’t expect most people here to get past five seconds of the screamo.
