Even though the Buzzgrinder staff doesn’t like My Chemical Romance very much, we’ll call a truce on this one. The Make-A-Wish Foundation recently made 16-year-old Krystal’s wish come true by giving her a day with her favorite band, MCR themselves.
As she stood chatting with the band’s five members, they took a look at her concert tickets. Almost in unison, they began shaking their heads as if to say, “No, this won’t do.”
Instead of leading Krystel and her entourage to their assigned seats, the band – Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro and Bob Bryar – escorted them to a roped-off area where the crew would orchestrate the show’s sound and lighting. The exclusive viewpoint provided another thrill for Krystal on this amazing wish granted by the band from New York.

as much as I can’t stand their music, they do seem to actually care about their fans- something that is rare for bands with their popularity.

it would be cool if people could just say something like good job, props, well done. instead there has to be a but i still hate their music attached to it at the end. i think this instance is dealing with something a little bigger than music. music’s not the issue.

I really do like MCR musically… Basically just ignored their personal lives and general reputation given by the music community.
However from what I have observed, I’ve always gotten the vibe that they’re people who, while not being the most intelligent or philosophical fellows, seem to really have a great understanding and caring for their fans. And yes I know most of us here probably can’t stand the average MCR fan, but hey… They need some love too ^_^
I read an interview with one of the members once who seemed like a pretty good guy. He was basically talking about some MTV guy and how he was trying to get girls to take off their shirts. He thought the guy was a jerk, apparently, and actually opposed doing such things (imagine that, a rock star who doesn’t like girls who take off their clothes for fame).
Yeah, the MTV guy was trying to get the girls shirts off, not the MCR guy. I wasn’t very clear in my post… oops.
Mike, I read that interview in HM Magazine. Yeah, he seemed like a pretty good dude. Wouldn’t be bad to hang with. It was the white-boy-fro guitarist.

Back in Dec 2002, I let the MCR guys stay at my house when they were on tour. For the next 8-9 months I use to go see them every time they hit Detroit as they would get me on the guest list.
They really are nice guys and I do like their music, it’s more of the “typical” MCR fan that I really don’t like.
Probably the 2 funniest stories I have about MCR:
1. One time in January 2003, MCR had been picked by Hot Topic to be the band of the month. They were really stoked and told me about how they were all going to get like a $500 shopping spree per member and whatnot. Then Hot Topic gave them a call and said it was a mistake.
2. When I saw them on tour with The Used & Thrice, Ray came up to me when I got to the venue and had a huge smile on his face and said “Alex, I have great news! We finally increased our guarantee, we now make $300 per night instead of $100. We can afford to sleep and eat now!”
It was hilarious, especially since they make $75,000+ per show now.
Hey tAlex….. I love MCR, How about you arrange to have them stay at my house next time they come through? They don’t even have to play a show here. I only have 2 bedrooms… people will have to double up. Isn’t that a crying shame? Let me just explain it to you this way. Frank and Gerard are the bread and I am the jelly in between.

Yeah that’s nice of them…but Katie…they aren’t the only celebrities who have helped out with Make-A-Wish Foundation. Musically….fucking SANTANA gave a kid guitar lessons or something. Now THAT would be cool. Loads more celebrities have done things…sooo…MCR aren’t SPECIAL for doing it. You seem blinded by MCR and totally oblivious to how other musicians contribute. Also, THOUSANDS of bands help out in a variety of ways, all are important. You worship MCR, so no one will ever take you seriously. But I mean, they are good guys, I agree.
Bands/artists have been doing this for years now, so I don’t see why anyone would want to heap praise on them for this. Hell, lots of artists hold/participate in concerts that raise millions of dollars for charities and/or bring awareness to various illness and other problems around the world.
People will heap praise on these assholes for anything.

You guys don’t get it. The article is called MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE HAS REDEEMING QUALITYS. The entire point of it is to make MCR earn at least a little respect, which they do deserve. It’s not like YOU are doing anything like this. So a lot of celebrities do this, that’s good!!! It trully is helping people in need!!! But since MCR get a lot of shit, the srticle was for you to realize that they really are good guys and deserve at least a little credit. Dr. Jones - when you ever do something like this in life, THEN you can say it’s no big deal. It’s a big deal to that girl, who’s dying of cancer! So don’t be saying “MCR will be given praise for anything!” It meant something to HER. Think about someone other than yourself once in a while.
