Scene Points #29: The Across Five Aprils Edition

Howdy, friends. Another slice of Scene Points heaven for you. It’s short, but to the point. Might be a little dated, but so is your mom. OH SNAP. Mega thanks to Jonathan Wooten for the video editing and camera work. If you want more Scene Points goodness buy a tshirt - shooting these goes much better with catered lunches and a few drinks.

Problems? Download the video.

Phil Collins Retires Again

Do you love Bengay, and going to bed at 7:30 pm? Well, so does Phil Collins. The singer/drummer has announced his retirement from the performing world.

Lest you spiral into an uncontrollable depression over this news, comfort yourself in the knowledge that he will still write and record, just not tour. With all his newly found free time, perhaps we’ll be blessed with “Urban Renewal” part deux. Lil’ Kim and Phil Collins. Don’t even step, son.

Shows This Weekend: Emmure, One Small Step For Landmines, Parkway Drive

Zach Braff’s ‘Unique’ Video Idea

Zach Braff — the actor everybody used to love but doesn’t anymore — is asking for your help to make a music video for Jay Clifford, head of now-defunct Jump Little Children.

I came up with this idea to make a music video by cutting together clips of people from all over the world singing the song and shooting the video themselves as though it were their own song. I’ve been talking about doing something collaborative with all of you since I first started writing on here. Well I finally figured out how. Jay has a new album coming out and you and I are gonna make the video together.

I’m not sure what’s worse, the fact that he feels like he needs to “relate” to his readers by calling them “you,” or the fact that he thinks this is a music video idea he thought up, or the fact that there is a picture of him getting eaten by a dog.

Clifford has more information about the project on his site.

Remember Strife?

There was a time when hardcore bands were not necessarily trying to make a comfortable living. There was a time when hardcore bands sold the majority of their CDs and records at their own shows. During this time, bands were in vans, not buses. The band didn’t e-mail a daily report of merch sales to their manager at the end of the night. They packed up their gear without the aid of techs. During these days, a band toured because of passion. At the apex of these days, Strife was the king of a growing hardcore scene.

Nine Inch Nails vs. Ticket Scalpers

Nine Inch Nails is taking some strong measures to prevent ticket scalping in their upcoming presale:

When you purchase presale tickets, you’ll need to enter your legal name exactly as it appears on your identification. … Present your ID at the entrance and you’ll receive your personalized ticket, which will have your name on it (no tickets will be sent out in advance). You’ll then have to enter the venue immediately.

It’s a solid effort, and I can’t knock them for it. I just hope Reznor’s site is ready for the load, so they don’t accidentally pull a Radiohead and make a lot of fans angry. (On that note, Radiohead should probably take a lesson from these guys so my wallet won’t hurt so bad next time around. Ugh.)

He Is Legend Posts Four New Songs, Drops The F-Bomb

He Is LegendHe Is Legend has posted four new demo tracks from its writing and recording sessions for an upcoming, untitled release.

Despite being on Solid State Records, a label widely viewed as “Christian,” one of the tracks, Don’t Touch That Dial, has some lyrics that are bound to raise a few eyebrows:

I’m falling apart
Breaking my fucking heart
Will someone let me know
If they play a song I know?

Ooo swears! This is sure to cause some controversy with any Christian bookstores blindly carrying all Solid State releases. Either that or the band will be releasing it on another label, but that has yet to be proven (though the fact that the label’s news page hasn’t posted anything about the demos could be a hint).

I’m impressed with the band for speaking freely, but maybe that’s my rebellious nature coming into play. Who thinks He Is Legend is going to hell for this one?
