What a way to start out Thanksgiving! Today was supposed to be an “off day” reserved for eating too much and watching the Cowboys blast the Seahawks. But then I got a somewhat unbelievable email. I’ll let this snippet from Touch and Go’s press release do the talking:
In what has to rank as one of the most unlikely developments in rock, the awe-inspiring primal force of the Jesus Lizard will return, briefly, in 2009. The original lineup of David Yow, Duane Denison, David Wm. Sims and Mac McNeilly will reform for a very limited series of live dates in 2009, starting with the All Tomorrow’s Parties event dubbed The Fans Strike Back in Minehead, UK on May 9 and 10 and ending with a final appearance in Chicago in late November.
Of course the label is going to capitalize on this by reissuing Head, Goat, Liar and Down on CD and vinyl. I’d be much more thankful if I didn’t have to wait until May to get those records.
Brent Hinds of Mastodon discusses “blowing up” and, well, not really wanting to be like My Chemical Romance. [link, Blabbermouth]

Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder) commenting on… something.
“There are kids out there who just listen to a band’s MySpace otherwise there wouldn’t be so many people begging you to change the songs. Who cares? You’re not there listening to the song… once you put a song on your MySpace, you don’t hang out there and listen [it].”
I have no idea what he’s talking about.

:: Coheed and Cambria touring with Slipknot and Trivium makes perfect sense.
:: Tommy Rogers of Between The Buried and Me wrote a song for KORG.
:: Christian Music’s Best, from Idolater.
:: Great feature; TOP 5 LIVE ALBUMS - 30 Musicians’ Toplists
:: As I Lay Dying, The Human Abstract and Protest the Hero will be touring together in the new year. No NYC date. Boo.

Fox from See You Next Tuesday is guest blogging about the many experiences of a touring band. On Tuesdays. Clever, right?
To start out I guess I should introduce myself. I’m Fox, the vocalist of See You Next Tuesday, and I will be taking over this blog for Travis. I don’t know if anyone reads this on a regular basis, but if you do, get ready to read me write about my life, on and off the road.
At this moment while I am writing this, I am on an airplane waiting to leave Puerto Rico. We spent this whole past weekend here. We played 2 shows. And it was way awesome. The first show in Mayaguez, and the second in San Juan. I have never seen so many beautiful women in my life! Definitely comparable to Amsterdam! Haha! But every person was amazing and so nice. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this past weekend for us. And a big thank you to Medalla Light!
Every time we play outside the U.S. (Yes, I know P.R. is a United States territory) it is hard for me to want to go back to playing shows in the US. Kids in other countries really show their appreciation for bands a lot more. I assume partly because places like Mexico and P.R. and even Canada don’t get tours or bands coming through them half as often as tours are going on in the United States. And they go out of their way to show their appreciation in hopes the band will come back or tell other bands to go there. If half the people that attend our shows in the U.S. acted like kids in these places, I’d actually be stoked for once to tour the State’s again. If you like a band, buy their album, go to their show, pay to get in, go buy their merch, rage while they play and tell them how much you care. Most bands, like us, feel like kids just don’t care anymore. Which is why I hate touring the U.S. now. It makes us all miserable…
I’ve already wrote too much I do believe, so I guess I will just continue this next week! Have a good Thanksgiving! Eat turkey, drink beer, grow a beard. Cyaaaaaaaaa!

The guileless human must have been taken to consumption to be in such grave error. A consort — much less a female one — is not required for the Dread Cthulhu’s awakening and subsequent subjugation of earth and all living things on it. As a reward for her insolence, she will be blessed by this star-spawn of the Old One with infernal visions of the coming apocalypse upon slumber, and she will be granted the unusual permission to watch in tranquil horror as her paralyzing fear is feasted upon by the Lord Cthulhu. Amen.

If you haven’t heard yet, John Spalding of Ninety Pound Wuss and Raft of Dead Monkeys died this past Sunday after a long battle with lung cancer. From former bandmate Jeff Suffering:

Bon Iver is the name of Justin Vernon’s indie singer-songwriter alter-ego on Jagjaguwar Records. In February, he released For Emma, Forever Ago to much critical acclaim after secluding himself in a cabin for three months. Now he’s back with a new EP entitled Blood Bank, and he’s a man of few words… or my questions are stupid.
