Anathallo to Release Canopy Glow on Anticon

Anathallo is going to be releasing Canopy Glow — the long-awaited follow-up to Floating World — on Anticon. The signing might come as a surprise to some, considering Anathallo’s DIY reputation.

Canopy Glow was written way back in January 2007, and existed in recorded form for months while the band searched for the perfect label home. But now it’ll finally see the light of day in November.

Apparently signing Anathallo to Anticon was all Yoni Wolf’s (of WHY? fame) idea. “Why?” you ask. OK, I couldn’t resist.

Also, Sammy, are you saying that Floating World somehow isn’t good?

If so, then that’s just silly.

while don’t kid yourself, you need a physician is still by far my favorite anathallo jam, i find it nearly impossible to say floating world isn’t good. i could see someone saying it isn’t superb, but couldn’t see someone saying it’s not at least good.

Don’t Kid Yourself is a great song. I wish they would have played it either of the two times that I’ve seen them. They played A Holiday at the Sea, though, which is almost as good.

good call. i love the guitars and, well, everythingg else on a holiday…

it’s a close second for me.

I want to see these guys live again. So bad.

Do they even play guitars anymore? Floating World was too busy. Let Sufjan Stevens do what he does and leave it alone. The songs were just silly and overly busy, the concept was dumb, and the lyrics were very lacking. The new songs are fun to watch live though.

honestly, floating world was the most spiritually intense and significant thing they’ve ever done. to say the lyrics are lacking is a tad ignorant, if you ask me. and i can say that because this is a message board of sorts and our job is to snob out all over each other.

seriously, rewriting the prodigal son to where he leaves home again after first returning, and doing it all in the form of a japanese folktale is bad ass, and you know it. the record wasn’t “too busy.” poorly produced, sure, but certainly not too busy.

and canopy glow? rocks my virgin asshole. no kidding. that thing totally rules. you guys are gonna have your minds blown.

i’m going to have to agree with jimmy on this. while the songs i mentioned before are my favorite individual tracks, floating world as a whole is too good. it’s so rich in all facets.

and i’m still jealous that he’s had a copy of canopy glow for like forevers now.

can’t we all just agree that anathallo is a superior band and “a song for christine” is their best song EVER?

Anathallo is an amazing group of people that I am proud to say that I am a friend to.

Floating World is probably the most intricate album that I’ve ever listened to, and has the longest staying power. You also have to realize that Floating World is primarily a concept album.

I understand the nostalgic Anathallo fans. There is something peculiarly different about their old and new recordings, but I’m a huge fan of them all.

I’m ridiculously excited about Canopy Glow.
