The boys in The Acacia Strain are hoping you’ll buy a copy or three of their latest album, Continent. In the band’s latest blog post they drop some knowledge:
“The more cds that are sold, the better tours we get, which means for all of you asking us to come to your town, this is how this works. CD sales are tracked by area too. We know we have a good following in the New Jersey area because people there BUY records. It’s a crazy system, but the industry relies on it so we can do what we do.”
You got that kids? Album sales determine where bands tour. I’ve known this for some time, but who listens to people who aren’t in bands? Continuing your education:
“Downloading doesn’t count, we get the shaft on that one. Maybe someday it will, but for now it doesn’t.”
Not sure if that means iTunes or general illegal downloading, but sheesh, how hasn’t someone figured out how to track that one? You can download a song and have the RIAA on your door step the next day, but they can’t piece together a string of tour dates from IP addresses? Come on, internetz!
next thing we know they will be straight up asking for our IP’s
so does this mean that if i go to the local record store and beg people not to buy their record (in the more than likely event that i see someone with it) that i won’t have to see this band in my town? har har
LOLZILLA, SETH!
The Acacia Strain… what are they a gangsta rap group?
Edward. Or just not see em.
