Cornerstone Festival starts this Monday, and I’d say plenty of Jesus-loving alterna-teens are lined up outside the festival gates. If you plan on attending, be sure to see at least some of these Buzzgrinder-approved sets:
There may be some other good bands, but these are some of the names that stood out to me at first glance as bands the Buzzgrinder staffers would be interested in seeing. Which means you should be interested in seeing them, too… duh.
Now if only Blenderhead would reunite for a show this year.
Mewithoutyou and Living Sacrifice are playing at the same time? not cool cornerstone. not cool at all (not that i’m making it this year anyway…)
I don’t see the issue, Tim. Who in their right mind would pick mwy over LS?
*FLAME WAR, ON*
As Bound With Them is playing a few times and is amazing. You definitely need to go check them out ASAP if you’re going to Cornerstone.
State Bird’s set should be 7:45 PM. They are followed by Max Justus which is going to be so much fun, I can’t wait.
hahaha you really did say Blenderhead.
The choice between mwY and Living Sacrifice is hard. I got to see LS on the Stronger than Hell tour and they were sick (yes, that was my first time seeing them.) mwY is just awesome all around to me though.
To make matters much worse, Blaster the Rocketman is having a reunion show during the same time slot as LS and MWY. I would definitely choose Blaster, but it still sucks. What sucks even more is that C-stone is not doing one day passes anymore. If I want to see Blaster on Friday I would have to pay $90. Also, I’d probably have about a $100 in gas to pay. I love Blaster, but I can’t afford that.
Frankly, the lineup quality has been declining for years and the price has kept escalating.
dang, i missed both the blaster and max justus listings. i suck.
“I’d say plenty of Jesus-loving alterna-teens are lined up outside the festival gates”
Just a FYI. You shouldn’t make fun of people who attend christian festivals if you’re doing a blog on who to go see while there. You just come off like some smug smart ass dude who tried to come up with a way to have a news story about Cornerstone without anyone actually thinking you think it or Jesus is “cool”.
“the lineup quality has been declining for years and the price has kept escalating.”
I throughly agree.
Go see Gasoline Heart and you won’t care about your choice of mwY or LS.
yeah, as soon as they stopped having really rad instro bands the whole thing went down the tubes.
“Frankly, the lineup quality has been declining for years and the price has kept escalating.”
Quality is relative.
of course i think jesus is cool. i don’t know what that has to do with my assertion that jesus-loving alterna-teens are lined up at the festival gates as we speak. it’s more or less a statement of fact.
also, i’m with nick and talex. looking through the lineup, my initial thought was “dang, there aren’t that many don’t-miss shows this year.”
Having never been to Cornerstone, I tend to think the line-up always looks pretty good. I’m used to Creation and Purple Door which are more like nice restaurants compared to the Cornerstone deluxe buffet. So I’ve wanted to go for awhile.
Alternateens are more drawn to Creation and the more CCM fests than Cstone. To me at least. Cstone has too many scary growlcore bands and skinny homosexual-looking men playing quiet music with strange instruments. But Sean has the right idea.
my wife and i are leaving from TN at the crack of dawn in the morning.
stoked!
I saw that Living Sacrifice and Blaster were playing at the same time yesterday.
That is really upsetting considering I don’t want to see many bands but I really want to see both of them.
Luckily I have seen LS about 4 times before, so I won’t feel too bad skipping them for Blaster!
I agree with the whole line-up thing, but still pretty pumped.
LIYW plays twice and I will be in attendance for both. These are their last dates before their final show…such a bummer.
I leave at 9am tomorrow… Should be a great week.
Hope the staff can hold down the fort while i’m gone- hah. jokes.
no starflyer 59?
i guess they are too old now. I’m getting too old for this.
jess, are you going to their last show?
Cornerstone is the bomb! ( not that iv ever been there)
Blenderhead sucks.
only made it to c-stone one year, but like to think i picked a pretty good year, 2003. Last FIF show on the mainstage, mxpx on the main, ZAO, Further Seems Forever (though ZAO and FSF played at the same time), Anathallo on the new band showcase. Copeland, Showbread, Brandtson stand out as highlights as well.
whoa.
amazing week.
im so sore and tired and burnt.
so good though.
and jay- i dont think i’m going to be able to make it out to their last show. That would prolly make my life though. its just coming up too soon and i have 25 bucks to my name at the moment. their 2 sets were amazing though. i danced so hard. shin splints, anyone? josh is probably one of the nicest guys ive ever met- serious. so chill, so real.
anyone wanna donate to the “jess from the IA to the CT” fund.
Cornerstone was a blast. What a great week. I was a bit concerned about the lineup this year but I always found something great to listen to.
mewithoutyou, All the Day Holiday, and Anberlin
we’re probably my favorite performances of the week
Generators! That’s the way to go, especially the Fatcalf and Anchor stages. I got to see Living Sacrifice (for the first time in seven years - it was epic), the end of mewithoutyou, and still caught Blaster the next day on the Fatcalf stage. It was awesome.
Other highlights:
Flatfoot 56 - toga party, main stage circle pit, Fatcalf riots
OCD - They’re new stuff is so good
Sleeping Giant - Pentecostalcore
Trenches - I don’t know if a lot of Haste the Day fans gave this band a chance. I personally think they’re way better than HTD.
Gasoline Heart
Psalters
Glen Kaiser Band - he is a master at Blues guitar
Thieves and Liars - NIV/P86 guitarists’ new Led Zep band
FBS playing “Ace of Spades”
The Famine
Voice of the Mysterons - from Scotland, spacepunk
New World Son - Funkytown
Sanctum
…and many others.
Bands I’m disappointed I missed: Rodent Emporium, Dignan, Mike Farris, Max Justus,
