Danielson Retrospective Out in November, Contains Words From Rick Moody

Secretly Canadian is planning to release Trying HartzDanielson retrospective — Nov. 4. The two-disc set is being culled from the Danielson, Danielson Famile and Br. Danielson material (essentially everything prior to Ships). So if you hear people complaining about mysterious dying-cat and chalkboard-scratching noises when November rolls around, you can put their fears to rest. It’s just Danielson.

Seriously, though, I’m looking forward to getting my hands on this. And not just because it’ll be one more album to buy that contains stuff I should already own but don’t. It’ll also be nice to read liner notes from a guy who wrote a book that was turned into one of my favorite movies — that’s Rick Moody’s The Ice Storm.

To make things even better in Danielson land, some combination of Daniel Smith and his peeps will be criss-crossing the country during most of November. Dates and track list are after the jump.

Check out this quote from Daniel Smith about the song below, Animal in Every Corner:

When Brother Is To Son came out a reviewer complemented me for finally showing restraint on Animal. I was offended and asked Kramer to do a new mix with angry and perhaps dying animals singing along with me.

I’m happy because it’s got Flip Flop Flim Flam on it and I’ve never been able to get a copy of that CD or those shoes.

I also read Rick Moody’s book of short stories and they’re awesome. He’s also written a story about Danielson for Believer (2005 or 2006 music issue) that was fantastic.
