Fear Before The March of Flames is heading on tour with I Am The Ocean and Damiera. The band (and a friend) booked the tour themselves, and even “encouraged their tour mates to share equipment to cut back on gas expenses and has thrown away any sort of rider for the promoters.” Now that’s something you don’t read in a press release everyday. So I got in touch with Adam Fisher with some questions.
No rider. No booking agent. Cutting down on equipment to save gas. Surely this all saves a bit of money which is nice, so now you don’t have to sell 98234098320 copies of your 4th album just to pay for this tour, right? Was that the plan? Or am I way off?
Not entirely. We don’t have any certain expectation for how many albums we will sell. Unless we do sell 9823409832098234098320 copies, any record we put out is never really gonna pay for a tour. It’s more just about getting back to basics and not having to deal with all the bullshit. Really, I’m serious.
What’s your relationship with Damiera and I Am The Ocean?
Both are bands that we respect musically and as people. We have toured with both bands before. Touring with I Am The Ocean last time was kind of what sparked doing this whole DIY thing. It also gives us two months to kick their ass at Buffalo.
Being in Brooklyn I noticed there’s no NYC stop on this tour. Is that a case of not using a hot shot booking agent? Or just your way of making us city folk get on a bus and head to Philadelphia?
Have you ever tried maneuvering a van and trailer through NYC? Better yet, an RV and trailer? It’s a nightmare. Last time we played NYC it cost us 25 dollars less than our guarantee to park. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy New York City but it’s not the easiest place to play for a little old band like us.
Tour van or tour bus?
A van. Always. We’ve never done a bus in the States. It’s expensive. I mean, I’d love to be able to microwave Boca burgers all day, every day but for now its all about luke-warm bottled water and melted Powerbars.
What’s the best album you’ve heard lately?

I’m sure there are plenty of unknown bands doing the same thing across the country but I’m glad a better known band like FBTMOF is doing it.
I shall be at the 10/7 at the Door for sure.
