Featured Band: Cut The Red Wire

Cut The Red Wire is the brainchild of a one Andy Bird (not to be confused with Andrew Bird). Created in 2004 and located in Tennessee at the moment, Cut The Red Wire has released one full length album on Plastiq Musiq titled Be Still Oh Child of Earth, All Heaven is in Your Hands. In addition, he’s put out two EPs, The Silence of the Sea and Let’s Go, Let’s Grow, both on Friendly Arctic Music. For those of you that might have forgotten, Plastiq Musiq was/is still Ronnie Martin’s baby. I’m not sure how involved the Joy Electric frontman is these days.

Andy’s indie/electronica/pop/whatever you want to call it has a lot of potential. His music brings to mind Joy Electric, Martin’s other band The Foxglove Hunt, Hot Chip — and even some 80s musical heroes like The Pet Shop Boys or Depeche Mode. The songs are there, and with a little more time in the studio, Cut The Red Wire will be making you dance. Even though you won’t admit to doing that.

So I’m not going to write a defensive comment about my husband in response to such absurd assumptions (although I’m greatly tempted)…

all I will say is this: on next year’s album… CTRW meets a ukulele and boy do they get along fabulously.
