Gay People Love The Killers, Brandon Flowers Saves Facial Hair

Brandon Flowers recently sat down with The Advocate to discuss The Killers’ new album and his vibrant gay following — which is no real surprise considering the sensibilities of said dance-punk-purveying-turned-wannabe-Springsteen-aping-turned-puffy-sleeve-loving pretty boy.

What did come as a surprise to me is that Flowers has strange grooming habits when it comes to his trash ’stache and chin fuzz. Straight from the horse’s mouth:

What about the facial hair you rocked for that record?
I thought you guys liked that stuff! Although we do go have dinner with Elton [John] whenever he’s in town, and every time I walked in the door he would say, “You haven’t shaved that off yet?” I felt more comfortable with facial hair; it’s almost like a mask. Whenever I shave, I save the hair. I’ve got it in a bag, and I’m planning to send it with the new album to [Pet Shop Boys singer] Neil Tennant.

I thought about only using part of that quote to make it sound creepy. Then I realized Flowers’ comments sound creepy enough on their own.
