Pop country star Gretchen Wilson — famous for her hit song Redneck Woman and resident of Tennessee, where 20% of the population doesn’t get their high school diploma — has finally finished high school herself.
Well, sorta. She’s getting her GED, which I always considered a cop-out. Everyone I knew in high school that took it was just smart enough to realize it was the easy way out and just lazy enough to go that route.
The best part is why she’s doing it:
Wilson told The Tennessean that her 7-year-old daughter was the big reason to finally finish, saying, “I certainly don’t want her to think you can be this successful without an education.”
Wait, so you want to prove to your daughter that you can’t be successful without a diploma, but you’re already successful enough without one that it’s national news when you finally get it? I wonder how close she was to failing the “logical reasoning” portion of the exam.

I have a friend who dropped out of high school after junior year, got his GED and went straight to college… a fancy way of skipping senior year. I was impressed.
It’s kind of sad that even after someone accomplishes something like that, someone still has to cut them down. First of all, Gretchen’s not trying to teach her daughter that you have to have an education to become successful. She’s trying to tell her that having an education is important. If you actually knew the reason why Gretchen didn’t finish high school in he first place, having dropped out in 9th grade, you’d feel like a giant ass right now. I highly suggest you know your facts before you start spitting off at the mouth about shit you know nothing about.
