Killers Frontman Finally Tells Us What His Lyrics Are

I know you’ve heard Human, that song by The Killers. And I’m sure you’ve wrestled with the line from the chorus “are we human or are we dancer?” But then you think, “that doesn’t make sense!” Then you come to the conclusion “maybe it’s denser.” “But that’s too philosophical for our tiny brains,” you say. Vocalist Brandon Flowers finally comes clean:

That sucks a bit. I don’t like, “Are we denser?” as an alternative. I really care what people think but people don’t seem to understand Human. They think it’s nonsense. But I was aching over those lyrics for a very long time to get them right. It’s taken from a quote by [author Hunter S.] Thompson … “We’re raising a generation of dancers,” and I took it and ran. I guess it bothers people that it’s not grammatically correct, but I think I’m allowed to do whatever I want.

Dear Mr. Flowers,

If you are reading this — which I know you aren’t — I think your band is awesome, and you are awesome. But when you tell people you can do whatever you want, it makes you sound like Kanye. And nobody likes Kanye anymore. Also, please be advised that the tickets to your shows are way too expensive. I can’t wait to hear your new record.

Sincerely, Blake

One time I saw the Killers in Chicago at this theatre and halfway through the show I look up and there’s Bono sitting in a box seat. At the end of the show everyone was shouting “Bono! Bono!” and didn’t care about the Killers doing an encore. So Bono threw up a peace sign and walked out so the Killers could finish what they were doing.
