Matt’s Top Ten Album List of 2008
These are the records I, who just so happens to be a person I respect quite highly for his great taste in all art, felt were the top 10 records of this year. The records were determined through a scientific process that involved a mouse in a maze being chased by a ferret, throwing watermelons off a bridge, and of course seeing which records were played the most via my iPod. The last point played a bigger role that the other two.
Close but not quite in the ten:
All Get Out All Get Out EP — Cursive and Casket Lottery had a baby. It’s poppy, loud and spits.
10. Torche – Meanderthal and Young Widows – Old Wounds
Finally people are getting the message that it’s okay to have hooks in stoner rock.
9. The Mountain Goats – Heretic Pride
I’m way past like with John Darnielle.
8. Silver Jews – Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea
The alt-country and rock sides of Silver Jews finally shake hands.
7. The Famine – The Raven and the Reaping
Fellow atheist/agnostic in metal, we just got our asses handed to us by Jesus. Please take note.
6. Grails – Doomsayer’s Holiday
What can the most chilling post-rock band add to their sound? Prog.
5. Adron – Adron
An unknown to most, but this record is one the most daring and teasingly fun folk albums I’ve ever heard.
4. Flight of the Conchords – Flight of the Conchords
Whut? Hey I’m not supposed to be here, whut.
3. Mogwai – The Hawk Is Howling
One of my favorite Mogwai albums, easily their best the strut naked to as well.
2. Amon Amarth – Twilight of the Thunder God
This was my “late for work” record, viking metal at its best.
1. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds – Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
This Nick Cave with a fu-manchu is loud and abrasive. The record is a novel, a street preacher and an executioner.
