Idolator blocked @ work. Did Gibson make a typical “OMG CHRISTAIN ROCK>?>>>?!!1″ remark?
no, but he did compare Demon Hunter to gangsta rap.
I’m a little confused by Jay’s comment and the remark in the post about the 77’s, but possibly I joined the conversation here in progress. I have probably my most love/hate musical relationship with Christian rock (and that’s saying something), since I grew up with the stuff, still generally enjoy quite a bit of it (even outside of the standard cool stuff), but am physically pained by the majority.
Still, a love for the 77’s should surprise no one. There’s a single disc best of in their catalog waiting to be made that would have people calling them the next Big Star, I’m convinced of it.
i just never saw you mention the 77’s before (though i could’ve missed that), so i thought it was interesting when i found it out all of a sudden like that.
Dan- I wasn’t all that clear. Usually when “normal”/secular/non-religious media cover Christian music they’re usually shocked by the novelty. It just gets kind of old, although sometimes it’s justified. But it doesn’t look like you fell for it. Kudos.
And boo for blocked sites at work.
I’ve mentioned them here and there. Once ages ago (http://idolator.com/tunes/please-release-me/please-release-me-christian-rock-edition-233086.php) and once somewhat tangentially a month ago (http://idolator.com/387692/attention-fans-of-late+80s-alterna+pop-sacramento-beckons). If I could get away with it, I’d post something about their classic era every day…I completely lack objectivity about their catalog from All Fall Down to Drowning With Land In Sight.
On a side note, the Demon Hunter/Christian gangsta rap made perfect sense in my head somehow.
77’s back in 94 or 95 said the word ass on the main stage @ Cstone that was in the song Dave’s Blues but was edited on the album. it was funny every looked and was like did he say what i thought he just said. next day at cstone had the same effect as the comment section on here did when he is legend dropped the Fbomb in the demo songs. Those were the days. And the 77’s 88 live album is one of the best live albums I have ever heard.
Anyone remember when xDisciplex let Brother’s Keeper play half of their set time at Cstone? 2000 or 2001. Total non-Christian band but their name was Biblical so no one noticed.
Remember the Uriah Omen? That was when He Is Legend were in proper ministry mode. But since they don’t talk about God they are free to curse. I wish the stupid Christians would get it.
