The Associated Press is reporting that Jill Sobule, of I Kissed a Girl fame, is asking her fans to help fund her latest CD. Who cares, right? Washed-up one hit wonder. Lame.
But this comes on top of the Wired Magazine article shedding light on companies that are doing the same thing on a much larger scale. It talks about Slicethepie and SellaBand giving music fans the opportunity to get in on the ground floor by investing money in their favorite band’s next album.
Whenever I think of investing, I picture Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd at the end of Trading Places.

Who cares?
Jill has raise $64,000 in a little over a month and will soon hit her goal. It looks like a lot of people care. Her fan base is pretty amazing.
Washed-up?
No, that’s the new way of doing things washing away the old. Thank God.
Why Jill matters so much is said better than I could at;

She really is the best songwriter working today — witty, smart and poignant. Jill may seem unimportant because of the apathy of record companies. Now that she has taken it out of their hands, that will change.
