Nickelback Singer Wants You To Put Down Guitar Hero

Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger thinks Guitar Hero is partly to blame for the music industry being the way it is.

“Start rock bands,” said the singer, “Set down the ‘Guitar Hero’ learn how to play an actual guitar and start a band, because it’s hard to find more bands to put a solid rock-and-roll package together.”

Do what Chad Kroeger says, because he knows what he’s talking about.

Guitar Hero 1 was released in 2005. Considering Nickelback has been around since 1995, I don’t think we can really attribute the game to modern rock’s decline.

um, more talentless kids should take up guitar hero and free up some of that sweet sweet capital for people who really want to make a living in music…I look forward to “Rock Band XVI”

I wonder what he means by “solid rock-and-roll package?” Something that can be created in a factory copied onto CDs or mp4 files and sold to the masses who fit the image that the corporate giant music labels know will “sell” to the average music licensee?

If that is the case, then I’d wish more “bands” would NOT be a “solid rock-and-roll package.”

    Poor choice of words pal.

Yeah, why play Guitar Hero when you can go pick up a real guitar? Also, why play Call of Duty and other war games when you can go inlist in the military and go fight in Iraq? It’s a fucking video game. All Chad Kroeger did by saying this was to make an ass of himself.

it’s ok, wrist-cutters. they’ll never read any of your complaints. but they will in all likelihood have drunk groupie sex with one of your best friends girlfriends.

You know, it’s easier to make money playing Guitar Hero than it is to put together a band. Just look at all the Guitar Hero tournaments that give away actual money instead of “gas money” or “free beer”.

Sure, his band is shit, but I agree with the guy to an extent. I don’t think it’s to blame for the downfall of the music industry or whatever bullshit he’s spouting, but I do wish that, instead of people spending hours upon hours playing a video game where they mimic playing music, that they’d actually learn to play an instrument. Of course, learning to play the drums isn’t as easy or as fun (at first) as Rock Band or whatever, but it’s a helluva lot more rewarding. In ten years no one’s going to give a shit about Rock Band, most likely including the people who play it so often, but if during those ten years you spent your time practicing and learning to play instead of wasting it all on a video game, you’ll have a worthwhile and enjoyable skill. You’ll be able to make your own music with people. Who cares if you don’t get rich or popular from it? Anyone who makes music for those reasons shouldn’t be playing it anyway. To me, nothing feels better than creating something new.

knock the comment all you want (I don’t care if Nickelback or Norma Jean or Secondhand Serenade said this)… but I have to say he does have a point…. there are lesser amounts of local kids in scenes across the USA that are creating bands (a few bands suck, maybe the fifth one they create will be something good… you guys know how this goes).

By the way, less venues are surviving with the less amounts of locals, meaning less opportunities for bands to tour and/or get tour dates in certain areas.

Friends often ask me how to play guitar or what guitar instruction to use, sometimes they even ask me how hard should it be to learn how to play guitar music. I know that some people think that learning to play guitar is very easy. It is a very big mistake. A COMPLETE learning method Studies show that 97% of all guitarists discover that learning how to play guitar isn’t as easy as they thought it would be. So, prepare to work hard.

I like how that Jason dude said that us Nickelback haters were “wristcutters”. Sounds like me that if anyone here is a wristcutter, it’s you.

I listen to music that’s actually MUSIC, and not some corporate cookie-cutter shit that 12 year olds eat up. Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, Metallica, Alice In Chains…. just a few bands who have more musical talent in their singers’ pinkies that Nickelback has as a whole

Nickelback writes standard rock songs. Nothing daring, but they’re certainly not talentless. It doesn’t cease to be “music” simply because you don’t like it. Let’s maintain some perspective here.

You’re right Jay. It is music, it’s just really really shitty, formulaic cookie cutter corporate crap music. You could take any of their lame songs, swap it with anything by Hinder, or Seether or any other boring, post-grunge crap rock and nobody would be able to tell the difference unless they knew which band it was beforehand.
