See You Next Tuesday Guest Blog

Travis Martin from See You Next Tuesday is guest blogging about the many experiences of a touring band. On Tuesdays. Clever, right?

Sorry I’m late this week. But holy crap we are back on tour and, while the hookers and blow have been kept to a minimum, it’s been pretty awesome. Like I said last blog, it’s been months since we’ve toured the U.S. and we’ve definitely missed it. It’s been awesome just to be back out on the road playing shows. We’re definitely a road band and we love smelling bad and getting sweaty and eating food that’s bad for us. Check, check and check.

We just got done packing up from our show in Louisville and we’re driving through the night to Pittsburgh so Fox can get tattooed tomorrow. I’m going to try to convince him to get something really awesome like a flaming snake shooting beer from its eyes. I’ll keep you posted.

And - while we’re on the subject of beer, I’ll get this out of the way and say that I drank entirely too much the other night and wound up passed out on a toilet in a Denny’s bathroom for at least 40 minutes. I think I’m still recovering.

The shows have been pretty good. Or as good as you can expect a See You Next Tuesday/Iwrestledabearonce tour to go, at least. It’s hit or miss, but we expected that. Grand Rapids, for example, was absolutely amazing. There have been some shows like tonight, however, where no one comes and we have to cut half our set to make curfew. There have been lots of 15 year olds coming out for the fashion show, but we’ve been getting a positive response from those who actually care about music. We were curious to see how kids would react to the new stuff, because we definitely made a conscious effort to move away from the old sound, but kids seem into the change.

Like I’ve said before, we couldn’t be more stoked on Intervals, so it’s nice to see people who are stoked with us. We could have everyone tell us they hate it and we’d still be happy, but it doesn’t hurt that they like it, too. Hopefully, too, with the new record we can avoid the aforementioned fashion shows, but I digress.

As I type this I’m listening to a band called, Black Ships. We played with them last night in Nashville and they totally blew us away. They’re really awesome. Go listen to them, buy their CD, and check them out because they’re on tour right now and will be for a few more weeks.

Us ourselves, we’re just over a week from the end of this bad boy. It’s a little on the short side, but that’s fine. It’s nice just to be back out and see faces that we haven’t seen in awhile and play some tunes. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll be sitting at home for most of the rest of the year, but that’ll give us time to write some new tunes and - who knows - maybe we’ll still be able to put something together with a band we really love like Trap Them or Young Widows or something.

As always, I’ll keep you posted. Hopefully next time I type this bad boy up I will include pictures of Fox’s beer-shooting-flame-wielding-serpent tattoo. Fox won’t do it.

Trent - I agree. I love the album, too. I saw them last friday night and they had to cut their set short due to some meat-head tough guys in the crowd asserting their masculinity.
