Sonic Youth Close to Inking Deal with Mystery Indie Label

Thurston Moore recently had a chat with Rolling Stone’s Rock & Roll Daily Blog about the fate of Sonic Youth. Now that the band many consider to be the epitome of indie music over the last two decades is done with its major label deal, things are going to change.

There’s one label we are certainly going to go with at this point. But I don’t think I’m allowed to disclose that right now. I don’t want to risk having a shit storm. The last four or five records we did were just so compromised by that [major label] situation. But that’s the way it goes.

Preliminary reports have Domino and Matador as the likely landing spots, but both labels are denying it. My guess is Tooth and Nail. No wait, Metal Blade. No, Fat Wreck Chords.

    Forefront.

HAHAHA, i haven’t even said Forefront in that context in probably ten years. I’m too amused with myself.

Otherwise, I’m seeing SY and the hold steady at the tla on friday. For $11. Booyakasha.
