Could the latest Spill Canvas album, No Really, I’m Fine, have cost over $300k to make? In this article from the Argus Leader the speculation runs wild!
… the price tag might reach several hundred thousand dollars, says Scott Hurowitz, president of All Night Entertainment in Sioux Falls. That includes the salary of popular producer Neal Avron (Yellowcard, New Found Glory, Fallout Boys). Avron produced, mixed and recorded the project.
Cathouse Studios owner Mike Dresh, who engineered The Spill Canvas’ “Sunsets & Car Crashes” at his Sioux Falls studio during 2002-’03, said there are very few million-dollar budgets in the limping record industry today. They are reserved for Madonna-level acts.
But the Spill’s project surely could have pushed the $300,000 mark, Dresh says.

I’m usually kidding when I ask this, but this time I’m serious…
who?
well, don’t sweat it, I’m sure they’ll make all that money back!
sounds like someone had some super unrealistic expectations here…
Fallout Boys ftw
How can you report about dumb shit like this when NIN came out with another album out of no where on the 5th. It doesn’t matter if you like NIN or not. It’s still better music news than spill canvas, who sux. Come on buzzgrinder, I’m starting to enjoy Pitchfork more and that hurts me to say.
@ZwickyFritz:
The new Reznor album was mentioned in the morning buzz. It’s already all over the internets - he doesn’t need any help from us.
ok, i’m familiar with the spill canvas because of a female friend of mine…
with that being said…
why would their album cost 300K?
i mean…
why?
i haven’t heard the album…
but, there is no logical reason for a recording by a mediocre pop band to cost more than say, a ballpark figure of 50K…
it should have only taken them 3 weeks TOPS to record everything…
but, hey who am i to say weather or not a real bad band should waste alot of money on a cookie cutter sound?
You know what Ben I don’t need your help
I’m sure they’ll make it back. But has anyone heard that Atlantic Records is in negotiations for signing an unknown band called X-X for 120,000. The band I heard isn’t very keen on it, but they admire STP, so it’s up in the air. Who’s ever heard of a major nowaday friggin giving an unknown indie band that kind of money? I don’t know what to think of that sh__))t. Usually a band has to make it nowadays in the indie scene before they can even get an offer from a major. Friggin crazy.
