SPIN Magazine sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Philadelphia-based band, SPiN. Says vocalist Jim Vacca,
“Seriously, how is our use of the name ‘spin’ likely to cause confusion for anyone?” he adds. “You see a band play a show, is that a magazine performing onstage? I’m confused, am I reading a magazine or listening to a rock band on my ipod? C’mon!”
It also appears that the magazine will need to go after the other Spin band, an “industrial metal band from the Maltese Islands.”
*Whew*
Looks like the legacy of the Spin Doctors is safe.
I seriously doubt if Spin Magazine wins this.
But ftw do I know?
I like Vacca’s response.
Spin has not been cool since Bob Guccione Jr. sold it years ago… do they even cover music anymore… ? I’m in Spin the band’s corner on this !
I hope spin the band fights them on this. we cant let the big corporations always win out just because they have money and lawyers.
Man, F SPIN the magazine. Douches. These guys rock for fighting this. What’s next, the roadrunner getting sued by acme markets? They may own the trademark logo for their company, but they can’t claim the f’n word Spin for things unrelated to them.
Don’t forget the Rolling Stones / Rolling Stone magazine! RUH ROH!
sounds like a fledgling magazine trying to suck the life out of a band just starting to get noticed. I guess the magazine figures they’ll get press from this frivolous lawsuit as spin the band starts becoming popular.

“I sued Neiman Marcus
‘Cause they put up their Christmas decorations
Way out of season
I sued Ben Affleck
…
Aw, do I even need a reason?”
if the magazine win, think of how many authors of books could win these cases.
I heard Satan Sued Ozzy for claiming he was the fkn prince of darkness.
