Victory Records makes a statement about leaked albums and what they’re doing about it:
“Victory Records is taking a step towards actively combating the effect of illegal downloads on the music industry, by issuing cease and desist letters to those found guilty of leaking Victory Records’ albums on the internet.”
Anyone get one? I mean, I know Buzzgrinder readers don’t download illegally. Maybe you know “a friend” who got one? Well, this kid got one. I’d say it’s a bad move to post the full letter, but hey, Across Five Aprils posted it, too. Stay classy, boys!
“In recent weeks, comment activity on various message boards across the web has exploded with praises on the albums. While the artists and employees of Victory Records appreciate the positive feedback, it is a bit alarming to realize the number of individuals who have acquired the entire album, pre-release date.”
On a serious note, let’s forget about the bands for a minute; record label employees need to eat, too. I know some people at labels and they’re thin and ragged, and that’s because they’re modeling for part-time work.
See, labels continue to hurt, and it’s going to trickle down. Managers won’t be able to manage, producers can’t offer tips for getting on the radio, booking agents can’t fill Clear Channel venues, graphic designers won’t be able to buy MacBook Airs - there’s more to this than simple, “Record labels are greedy!”
And hey, if the labels fold, who’s gonna advertise on Buzzgrinder? See? The terrorists win!

Do they really have a case if all the kid did was post it, though? I’m assuming he just runs a blog that posts uploaded albums that other people have uploaded.
Unless he actually did.
You know who does win, lawyers. They win big, I’m talking like yaughts filled with strippers with gold tassels kind of win. So many hours are being logged to write legal letters to people who run blogs that get read by fifty or so people.
Does Victory even need a PR department? They can just keep being the new Metallica and getting all the free press they need.
it doesn’t matter how much money the Victory makes because it all goes to Tony anyway. they’ve never paid their employees well and they treat them even worse. but i’m not of the belief that leaking albums hurts sales anyway so none of it matters.
Hurry. Read the Across Five Aprils’ myspace blog for some real juicy comments. They’ll be deleted shortly I’m sure.

uh, just saying someone has “been found guilty of leaking victory records’ albums” doesn’t ACTUALLY make them “found guilty.” i’m no legal expert, but i’m pretty sure that involves a trial and the american legal system. not just some aggressive legal department and tony blowhard’s ego to “find them guilty.”
I like A5A.. this whole things is stupid imo though. It’s just making A5A look bad.
I will buy the album (or download it) like the rest of their albums.
To the kids that say shit like ..write some music that is worth buying.. or whatever they say just need to keep their mouths shut. More than likely they are 16 year old scene kids that wish they knew what they are talking about.

but what i do know is that he’s one of those fat pocketed thiefs who would use an entire army of lawyers to get a penny back.
I’ve read some pretty nasty shit about him.
and I would not care if i heard about him getting mugged as he’s skipping down to the bank to cash in on someone elses hard work!
