We Watched mtvU’s Woodies So You Won’t Have To
Our good buddy Jessica Chow hit up MTVu’s Woodie Awards on our behalf last week. She wasted her Wednesday so that you won’t have to waste your Wednesday this week by watching. Here’s all the Woodie news that’s fit to print.

The mtvU Woodie awards show was pretty much what I thought it would be — just your basic awards/musical performance show. But, there sure were a lot of surprises as well. It was a bit weird seeing Roseland Ballroom transformed into two stages, with one for the podium and the other for performances. I mean the last time I was in the building, there was an eight-foot stage and the Deftones just had some snazzy lights as a backdrop. That was nothing compared to what MTV had for the show, of course!
The Woodies kicked off with an intro by rapper Asher Roth that led into a performance by The Cool Kids, who threw tons of ice cream bars into the crowd. Way to keep it cool — literally — huh?
Other performances included Lykke Li, with guests Au Revoir Simone. About two and a half songs in, she started rapping and Q-Tip came out to do his musical duties as well.

Then came every pre-pubescent pop-punk girl’s favorite crushes All Time Low, who performed their “hits” Poppin Champange and Dear Maria, Count Me In. The band also Had three dancers on stage… too Beyonce. Nice idea, but thumbs down.
Santogold did her thing, too. Then Santi, as she’s known to the cool cats, had Spank Rock join in during her last song.
Lastly, every post-pubescent wannabe-indie-snob girl’s crushes, Vampire Weekend, teamed up with Chromeo for some vocals and keys. Or at least I think that was what went down. It was hard to see!
Basically, it was an interesting mix of acts and unexpected collaborations. Many many celebrities and artists were in the house, too; some mind-blowing, some just totally random. Have to give MTV some props, though. Not too shabby.
Presenters included Debbie Harry, Mark Hoppus, Moby (who sported the classic Bad Brains shirt might I add), The All-American Rejects, Haley and Jeremy of Paramore (they won Woodie/Artist of the Year if you were wondering by the way), Boys Like Girls, Andrew McMahon of Jack’s Mannequin (Remember Something Corporate? +5 if you do), and a bunch more that don’t quite really matter, which is why I can’t remember them… like Zoe Kravitz?
What’s in store for next year, eh MTV? TRL is gone, so step up to the music plate!
