Those crazy kids at Asthmatic Kitty are some of the flash-gamingest bunch of folks around these days, it seems. First, they had that Jookabox baby daddy game, which was incessantly addictive and entertaining. Now they’re celebrating the season of Advent with a Sufjan Stevens Christmas decorating game type deal (see my decorated Suf up there?).
So now that there’s word of Teddy’s Matador debut surfacing March 9, I was pretty amped to see the label throw out Even Heroes… to whet our appetites for The Brutalist Bricks.
It’s always amusing when band’s make “short films” instead of “music videos.” I guess Michael Jackson’s distinct brand of self-importance lives on, even in the form of Between the Buried and Me.
:: Aquarium Drunkard discusses Iron and Wine’s The Creek Drank the Cradle. I love that record, but I think their assessment is true and sad. It helped spark a change in the direction of indie rock, pointing folks down the whole “where are my testicles?” path.
Poor Mastedon. You released your first album when the members in that “other” band, with the nearly-homographic name, were standing awkwardly in the corner of the spring semi-formals. But you will pass by, unnoticed and unfortunate save for a handful of jaded Kansas fans and Jesus Movement elders — unless you’re willing to keep up with the Joneses and suffer through life with a tattoo on your face.
You can tell Conana isn’t into this when he’s introducing Weezer. Then you can tell I’m not into it by me puking everywhere while they’re playing. I never thought a day would come when I’d be begging for another green album…
How come Frank Black looks like he’s 10 years younger than the rest of the Pixies? I guess it’s that whole not eating meat thing. Or maybe he’s one of those soul vampires, and he sucks the life out of tweens and old people. Either one is a tenable position.
Since we’re all getting ready for Thanksgiving and what not, things will likely start slowing down a big around Buzzgrinder today. But we’ll still have a little something for y’all. Just like this clip of Wolfmother on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night.
Buzzgrinder spoke with Murder By Death frontman Adam Turla recently (i.e. four minutes ago) about singing real low/high, playing live, their label and Texas (which we’ll be posting in the next day or so) — plus he gave us a little tidbit that might get folks chomping at the bit.
Sometimes it’s easier to wait out the interval between present and when a new record drops if all the info is still out in the ether. But when a specific date is looming, the suspense and anxiety start kicking in.
That said, Turla intimated that Vagrant was tentatively looking for an April 6 release date for the band’s upcoming, still untitled fifth full-length album. So start licking your musical chops, because we’ve got about four and a half months to wait from the look of things.
