As Cities Burn Breaks Up
After sort-of breaking up once after their first record, the members of As Cities Burn have officially turned in their scenester cards in favor of the family life. BO-RING.
As Cities Burn has broken up. We are happily moving on after 6 good years. Our lives and our wives have called us in different directions. Thanks to anyone who has come out to a show, had words to say, or bought a cd to help us fill the tank.
I can’t say I’m all that surprised. If you ask me, after losing their original vocalist and calling it quits after the phenomenal Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest, coming back to release a couple mediocre records was a drawn-out dead horse beating that was bound to burn them out sooner or later.
That said, thanks for that first album. I’ll try to remember you in a positive light for that and forget the not so good parts.

Insert a typical “didn’t like the music, but they were cool br0s” semi-namedrop comment here.

good riddance, another notch to prove that solid state can’t create a long lasting band these days

I think every label has that problem.
By the way Josh…I just totally left 3 comments on a blog post of yours that I missed in my RSS feed. It’s more for my benefit than yours, because I wanted to codify what I was thinking. I like being selfish.

Son I loved you at your darkest is a rare, and amazing album, and Hell Or high water was, in my opinion, their 2nd best album. Come now sleep was good too in it’s own way, but not too many great tracks, but there were a few epic songs on it.. Screw any chance i had of seeing them live.. not that i probably would have anyway even if they were around fr another 2 years..

The first one was so good and their live shows with TJ were also. After he left it went downhill for me. Still liked the other two though- just not as much.

Also, Cody Bonnette is a phenomenal musician. I’m sure he’ll be doing something music-related in the near future.

I’d say all 3 of their albums were amazing. Hell or High Water was extremely original and fresh, and Come, Now Sleep had some really catchy songs and amazing guitar work on it. Far from “mediocre.”

yeah, i really dont think any of their work was mediocre at all. it was unique and very comforting. i can’t get the same feeling with other bands. i absolutely love them and will miss them terribly.

Come Now Sleep is seriously one of my favorite records of all time. It took me about two months to finally get it, but when it clicked, I absolutely fell in love. Additionally, they’re one of my favorite live bands. The absolute passion Cody and the others seem to have for their music, especially live, is nothing sort of inspiring.

beating a dead horse? maybe…They broke up when the vocalist left thinking they were done, no one likes a vocalist change, blah blah but if I recall, the fan response was so great to wanting them to stay together, that they decided to keep going. I think…

AS CITIES BURNS is calling it a day? What why can’t the rest of the lame solidstate line up leave rather than the most talented band since Living Sacrifice have to leave?

I think if you listen to Come Now Sleep not for the breakdowns, the screaming, or the hardcore-esque stuff that original ACB fans for so hands down for, you’d see that it is nothing short of amazing. It was extremely well put together, and Cody has just as much talent as Cody, just he isn’t in to the hardcore thing. Read his interviews, that’s why they broke up permanently. He’s done with hardcore. AKA, he grew up. ACB’s post “Son I loved you” stuff is more mature and definitely more technical. Nevertheless, all three albums possess a beautiful, unique sound, with insane levels of passion and beautiful lyrics. BTW, if you ever saw them live right after CNS, and they were terrible, it was because (after having a 30 minute chat with Cody) I learnd that he wasn’t feeling it at the time. They are amazing live. I saw them soon after when they played with my boyfriend’s band and Chris, Cody, and I talked for awhile about the new stuff. I’m gonna miss those guys.. oh well, I’ll see Cody in a month or so for a special acoustic show!
