Bruce Springsteen Turns 60 Today

Not too many dudes can inspire an entire genre that actually transcends defined genres, stretching from art rock to pop punk to indie rock. But thanks to Bruce Springsteen, we have Joiseycore (Or maybe Bosscore? Or maybe make-your-band-sound-really-bland-by-aping-Springsteen-just-like-2,495,963-bands-before-you-core?).
So on your 60th birthday, Boss, we salute you for inspiring acts from all over the nation to sing about the worst state in the union. Like when you had that three-way with Gang of Four and some spent 55-year-old, cracked-out Vegas showgirl that eventually gave birth to Sam’s Town. Then again, it’s a gem compared to Day and Age. So good work on that, after all.
Here’s to the sometimes-wannabe Bob Dylan who was integral in the development of Bon Jovi. We love you Bruce. Even if your most well-known song is a paean dissecting post-war malaise that’s commonly construed as a fist-pumping, beer-drinking anthem for people to wave flags to.

One time I reviewed a Jersey band on Buzzgrinder and got crap from Jerseyans for it. Coincidentally, I met and started dating a Jersey-raised Bruce fan soon after.
I don’t know exactly what that has to do with this, except that I’m now a bigger Bruce fan I ever planned on, and if my girlfriend sees this post, she might fight you for saying anything bad.
Happy birthday, Boss. Keep up the good work.

I saw the Boss solo in 1996 and with the E Street Band in November 1999. Bruce always has taken his observations of what he sees around him and paints a picture with his music. He is one of the most dynamic writers and performers in the history of rock’n'roll. He ranks along with all the giants, including U2, Pink Floyd, the Beach Boys, the Ramones, Rush, the Rolling Stones – those bands I have seen live as well – as well as Elvis, Chuck Berry and other icons I haven’t seen. The new album he put out this year shows that he keeps on innovating and he keeps on ROCKING. His songs are a reflection of what we all see and experience in our lives. Bruce is the quintessential American rock’n'roll star but in an earlier era he’d still be a damn good troubadour with a lute and all. Happy birthday Bruce Springsteen. You rock and you do it in such an intelligent poetic way, and that’s what makes you so special. Keep up the excellent work. You’re the Boss and an icon.
