Company of Thieves – Oscar Wilde

Rushmore is my favorite Wes Anderson movie, and one of my favorite movies in general. Which is why I can’t decide whether or not I like this Company of Thieves video. Is it a delightful homage? Or a blatant, lazy rip off? I can’t tell. Thoughts?

I (also a Wes Anderson fan) find the video charming.

I directed the video and I can assure you it is absolutely a lazy rip-off! In all seriousness though, we thought up the idea of using Max to show the theme of the song – which is the lengths people go to conform with society. The band and I are obviously big Wes Anderson fans. I originally thought the humor in our version would come out due to the cheap props & no budget. Watching them side-by-side, I get a kick out of how comically cheap our version looks and some of the funny ways we re-enacted certain shots.

I want to thank you for the writeup and welcome all comments – including the haters who make us laugh too. Please be sure to check out the band regardless of what you think of the video – they’re not only extremely talented but very down-to-earth nice people as well.

This video is awesome. I might be a bit biased, Mike (the drummer) is a friend of mine. I finally just saw these guys a couple weeks ago, and they’re so good live. If you wanna see the song live, they were recently on carson daly’s show on nbc. find his website and there’s a video of it. So happy to see these guys doing well. BUY THEIR RECORD!

Stumbled on the music video – Never listened to the band until today actually, even though I’m from Chicago. Clever…I dig the low budget Wes Anderson thing. I just wish her gum had stayed stuck to the wall near the end there. (Kidding…. Ok, I’m not.)
