Death Cab for Cutie Keeps Proving Narrow Stairs Was an Aberration
It’s no secret that you won’t find a whole lot of positive ink around these parts about the last Death Cab for Cutie album, Narrow Stairs.
However, it seems that the soon-to-be Mr. Zooey Deschanel and his boys have been making up for that with their last few bits and pieces. First there was the The Open Door EP, which was head and shoulders above its preceding alum.
And now there’s a new track, Meet Me on the Equinox. Granted, it’s not A Movie Script Ending or The Sound of Settling, but it’s another step in a positive direction. Except, of course, for the fact that it’s the lead single of the new Twilight soundtrack.
But hey, Ben has to buy Zooey a nice wedding present somehow.

i think it’s possible that i would’ve liked narrow stairs more if it had come from someone other than death cab. but my expectations were high. now, however, they aren’t as high.
just like with weezer. these days, i’d gladly take another green album when compared to their last few. although i haven’t lowered my expectations that much for death cab, so you know.

narrow stairs is ok, i think a little better than most people give them credit for. they are a great band and i think when you wait for a long time for a band you like to come out with an album and it is only ok it turns ok into horrible (see wilco the album)
