Drew Danburry Covers Gorilla Biscuits
It’s always interesting to hear a cover that’s drastically different than the original. Interesting, but usually bad. And that’s doubly the case when one party is a singer-songwriter and the other is an influential old-school punk band. You know, like when John Mayer used to cover Bad Brains and Jason Mraz broke out the Jerry’s Kids.
Luckily, Drew Danburry‘s cover of the Gorilla Biscuits track Two Sides bucks that trend. It’d be a lie if I said Danburry’s version is as good as the original. But the subject matter and apropos duet, coupled with the Danburry’s overall instrumental oeuvre, carry the track from the realm of some kitschy reverse Punk Goes… bizarro jam to a song that actually stands alone, on its own merits.
Additionally, Danburry has just released a free, six-song EP titled Geraniums.
