Stream: Horse the Band – Horse the Song
It was good while it lasted, but you got here way too late to here the song. You can still read what Nathan Winneke had to say about it, though.
We’ve been blaring Horse the Band‘s upcoming album, Desperate Living, for a little bit here at Buzzgrinder. So we’re more than happy to give y’all an exclusive look at the semi-eponymous Horse the Song. Apparently, naming songs after your band is the thing to do these days. Let’s see what frontman Nathan Winneke has to say about it, since he was kind enough to give Buzzgrinder some insight into the song:
I imagine it like it was an empty summer night in 1942 where the humidity was thick like a wool sweater on my body. I had been listening to the sound of mosquitoes zip and yawn through my consciousness when a thin and fragile thought graced my mind. The thought sat like a will ‘o the wisp on a spider web until it began to breath and grow and swell into an idea.
You see, thoughts are like freeways or roads. They run linear through your mind, taking you from one place to the next. Ideas are like people. They can be their own entities. They can be like a virus that spreads are grows and thrives. My idea had quickly birthed and grown to maturity like a freak conception in a forgotten episode of The Outer Limits. It was the duality between my idea and my idea about the life of an idea that became Horse the Song.
To be a band named Horse the Band and write a song called Horse the Song — about the infectious, swelling addiction that the music tends to plauge upon conciousness — seemed to me to be a great idea. The year was 2009. It was a better idea than calling it Cutsman 2. That was just a thought…
Desperate Living is out Oct. 6 from Vagrant.
