Morning Buzz: Christopher Walken, Lady Gaga, Broken Social Scene, Say Anything

:: Christopher Walken does Lady Gaga. Yeah, you read right. Poker Face to be specific. Bizarre.

:: Drama from Broken Social Scene. It looks like the band’s biographer — who is also a Pitchfork writer — might have been had. No, not a Pitchfork writer. Never.

:: As if it wasn’t already painfully obvious, major labels have hit an all time low. Case in point: All Time Low just signed a major label deal.

:: AW Music recently got to see Say Anything. One thing I noticed was that the band had a “first encore,” which means there was a second encore at some point. One is lame enough. Two is just plain vapid. Sorry Max, but you aren’t really a rock star.

:: The internets were saying that Chuck Biscuits (who’s drummed for D.O.A., Danzig, Circle Jerks and countless other bands) had passed away. But the internets were wrong, and Biscuits is alive. Wait, internet wrong? My entire worldview was just blowed up.

:: My boy Autopsy IV at Nine Bullets made a meathand. Pretty awesome.

The whole encore thing is silly these days anyway. We all know that the band is going to come back out. If they want to take a five minute break between two parts of their set, they should just call it an intermission. I did see a true encore earlier this year when I saw Mae. Dave and the other guitarist came back out without the rest of the band (maybe it wasn’t in the contract for the hired guys to play more or maybe they didn’t rehearse more than the standard set) and played a couple more songs from audience requests. That was awesome because it was unplanned and unexpected. I really wish they would have played 12.31.99 (Us Vs. Them), though. That would have been one of the most amazing things ever.
