Morning Buzz: David Byrne, U2, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

:: David Byrne will be performing for free at the Celebrate Brooklyn festival. However, there is a suggested donation of $3.

:: Meathead has some lucid and erudite reasons why he thinks U2 sucks. Oh, and he hates bands with wolf in the name.

:: Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be performing on SNL this Saturday. At least that means there’ll be 15 minutes worth of decent material. Two YYY songs and the digital short.

:: Music Slut asked White Lies eight questions. And the band answered them.

:: You can now get To Write Love On Her Arms shirts at malls. I want to say something disparaging because I’m funny, but TWLOHA is nice.

:: Random tracks that don’t suck:
At the Drive-in – One Armed Scissor
Cush – Run Mary Run
Heartless Bastards – Out at Sea

That’s how TWLOHA and some parts of the charity culture get you, Sean. There’s self-activitated guilt that kicks in if you start to think about maybe criticizing them, whether it’s constructive or not.

I posted a Pshopped parody of the TWLOHA shirt that I did on my Facebook and I got a few negative messages about it. It’s funny how serious some people take their trendy, sacred cows.

I mean, I hate poo-pooing well-intentioned people and causes, but SOME people who are depressed/cut themselves/consider suicide can exhibit some self control.

If you really feel the need to help someone, you’re better off helping out charities that abuses of liberty (mostly not in the U.S.), something where the victims have little to no control over their situation (mostly at the hands of liberty-denying governments).

I just think teen suicide is the bottom rung on the “crap that goes on in the world” ladder.

while i like David’s music, he reveals himself to be a bit of a jealous prick here. he only wishes Talking Heads never broke up. so instead he’s being a baby because he got bumped off Letterman. grow up. while the 360-Tour could be more eco-friendly, did David even stop to think how many people have a job right now because of this tour? how many people can still keep a roof over their heads?
sure, it’s easy to poke fun at these guys because they’re out in front. always have been. but donating a lot of money to music education, HIV-Aids research, building wells and schools in Africa and helping to get support for pharmaceuticals seems like a larger contribution than Mr.Byrne setting up designer bicycle racks in New York.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s a decent contribution. Just get over your hurt feelings David. I didn’t know you were so passive-aggressive.
