Morning Buzz: Toxic Holocaust, Say Anything, Fugazi

:: Drama is brewing with Toxic Holocaust and a show at a “Christian teen venue.” Never would’ve guessed that with a band like Toxic Holocaust.

:: I hate it when this happens to me: Some random girl stole Say Anything frontman Max Bemis’ wedding ring at a show recently. She was caught, though, so he got it back.

:: Jarvis Cocker said a recent quote about a possible Pulp reunion was twisted to sound like it might happen. Apparently what he really meant to say was that it won’t. The mix up is understandable, since those two things are easily confused and all.

:: Aquarium Drunkard talks The Argument from Fugazi for their latest installment of Decade.

:: Cold War Kids will be putting out an EP in January. Pretty happy about that, since I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately. Get it? Their EP will put me to sleep. Get it?

:: You can stream the new Weezer album… be still my beating heart. Or something like that.

I’ve seen a lot of Christian venues open and close their doors…except the ones with “compromised values”. Let’s face it, bands like Black Dahlia Murder and Toxic Holocaust have no place in a venue that has Christ in their mission statement (this is not a criticism of the bands, but completely of the venue). It really just doesn’t make sense.

Do you think a club owned and operated by Anton LaVey would let Michael W. Smith and Twila Paris play there? No way in hell (excuse my pun).

If it’s a formal ministry I can understand barring non-Christian bands. Most Christian-only clubs don’t qualify as scriptural ministries so I don’t see a clear mandate to keep it Christian-only (whatever that’s supposed to mean).

Well, they apparently have a mission statement. How many venues have mission statements? (Answer: mostly just Christian ones). This is not a matter of a Christian owning a venue and letting non-Christian bands play. This is about a Christian venue hosting bands with anti-Christian lyrics. That’s just bad business in many regards. Just take down your dang mission statement and be an “all ages venue”. Otherwise it’s really false advertisement.
