Pitchfork Founder On ABC News

Pitchfork’s Ryan Schreiber was recently on the ABC Evening News giving his “Five Albums to Watch Out for in 2009,” apparently from his sweet studio apartment that only has a lamp and a camera tripod in it. For some reason, it reminds me of the place Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez lived in from the classic film Men at Work.

This is the inaugural segment for the series anchor Charles Gibson calls “New Music Monday.” Schreiber’s picks included Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s self-titled album, Antony and the Johnson’s The Crying Light, Wavves’ album Wavvves and Bon Iver’s Blood Bank EP. You can watch the clip from ABC News. Or you can view the trailer for the film Men at Work.

The only people I know who watch ABC News are my parents, and I didn’t hear Schreiber mention either Smokey Robinson or The Beatles — so good job wasting their time. That said, you can catch me on the 4th hour of The Today Show on NBC, with hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, giving my Top 10 Thrashcore Albums of 2008. Just kidding! I totally fooled you! But I would if they asked. The years have been kind to you Kathie Lee Gifford. Rawr.

My immediate thought when I watched this yesterday was, “Schreiber is recommending a bunch of albums to the last kind of people who would enjoy them.” If he was asked to stick to the Pfork brand, then it’s ABC’s fault. Otherwise, he has gone waayyyy too far down the hipster rabbit hole.

Josh, does having his head up as his ass count as going too far down the hipster Rabbit Hole? Pitchfork sucks.

No wonder some of his music suggestions are not that good, he has no flavor in his studio apartment…. for shame.
