Silversun Pickups – Substitution (Live on Conan O’Brien)

From September 16, 2009 (since it’s still true, and I’m feeling lazy because it’s Christmas week and I’m back home in rural Ohio):

I was talking to someone a little while back, and they said, “Silversun Pickups is one of my favorite bands right now.” To which I replied, “Yeah, I dig the Smashing Pumpkins, too.” Get it? Silversun Pickups sounds like Smashing Pumpkins. Get it?

    Dude these guys sucked on Conan. Instrumentally they were okay, but vocally one of the worst things I’ve heard a long time. Muse on SNL was way better than this shit.

    As far as the Smashing Pumpkins comparisons go, at least SOMEONE out there sounds like them right now. Zeitgeist was lame.

    Yeah I agree. What a terrible live performance in comparison to the album version. Drummer rushes and slows back down during that one off-beat section right before the chorus. So noticeable. And what the heck is the keyboardist playing? Sheesh mageesh!

    I saw him live and met him…The main reason his voice was like that, as well as his eyes being crossed, is because he was nervous and not sober enough…something like that. This performance kind of ruined it for me… but, If you hear their other performances, they are really good.

    Sounded very weak vocally compared to listening to the album. I cracked up every time he looked crossed eyed to the camera. Almost made this performance worth watching.

    Very disappointing performance. I’ve seen these guys live and either they were really wasted or really nervous, or maybe they had H1N1… all I know is their real live shows kick the ass of this unfortunate incident. As for the Pumpkins, the Silversuns kick their ass too.
