The Number Twelve Looks Like You – Worse Than Alone

The Number Twelve Looks Like You – Worse Than Alone
Score: 6.135

This is one of those bands I can’t quite get. Their live show is ridiculous, but their albums always seem to be hit-or-miss.

Half the tracks on Worse Than Alone are jazz-tinged mathcore genius. The remaining songs are either straight-up Dillinger Escape Plan knockoffs or don’t flow well with their twisted, frantic hardcore sound; they sound more like studio outtakes or an amateur trying to make “serious music” in his garage with a pirated copy of ProTools.

Problem being, of course, that The Number Twelve Looks Like You is not a serious band. Stick with what you’re good at, guys. You have potential to be great if only you’d apply yourself better.

    this bullshit cant be serious…

i wouldn’t care if the writer was making fair criticisms, but he totally misses the point of the album…

comparing it to dillenger escape plan, and saying it sounds amateur is just a stupid fucking opinion and it doesnt help anyone make an informed opinion about it.

they have always been a serious band, i dont see how they arent serious. they’ve applied themselves amazingly on this album.

to read a fair review that was written with real integrity go over to sputnik or absolute punk. fuck you josh mock.

hey guys..a review is someone who’s opinion is respected giving said opinion. rein in the testosterone a little. your keyboards will probably thank you.

I haven’t listened to it yet. don’t know if I will. either way, this review helped me generate any interest in a band 15 year olds gushed over 4 years ago!

Firstly, learn how to spell. Please.

And last, DEP isn’t perfect, so it’s very understandable to say that the #12 is somewhat on Dillinger’s nuts and not sounding that great. It’s just an opinion, man. My opinion is this band is horrible and I’m glad the scene was gradually moved away from this genre of music. I’ve never liked them and probably never will.

Give me more GOOD Shai Hulud rip-offs any day.

i think they themselves moved away from the genre “the scene” we know has become acustomed to…if you listen to the album you might find a lot of logical progression that most 15 year old scene kids are probably shunning right now for its lack of breakdowns.

really? the josh i know ONLY listens to breakdowns.

#12 hasn’t ever been “on top of their game”, and rank right up there with drop dead gorgeous, at least to me. (maybe that’s too far, but whatevers)

I’m from the UK, so my opinion will probably differ.

Also, I’m 23, and am definately not limited to listening to hardcore.

To me, this band’s last 2 records have been truly a breath of fresh air.

I’m bored of crap bands getting heaps of publicity.
I’m also bored of people dismissing something because it’s different, which is what I fear this review is really.

I like the less overly produced feel this record has. It’s precisely why I’m going off the Fall of Troy.

The production compliments the style of music they’ve come up with perfectly. They’re very talented musicians – you can’t deny this so they’ve not needed to over compensate.

This record doesn’t sound as polished as others do, which might be something the review personally doesnt like, but they should have at least had the smarts to see this as a creative choice, not a lack of skill.

This is an evolution in the bands style and a nicely produced record. The review is a bit vague, so if you take this as a guide to whether you should buy this, then I’d call you a bit silly.

The score is a bit retard…wtf is .135 in terms of a score :S

Meh I dunno, I’ve rambled. This is a great album. It’s mostly fresh, I say mostly as I see the links with Dillinger Escape Plan, but shit, if you’re gonna sound like a band, there are FAR worse bands to sound like, considering DEP are fucking good.
