This Will Destroy You & Lymbyc Systym – Field Studies

As a This Will Destroy You fanboy, this was an essential release for me to check out. They don’t have much material, so anything new is always welcomed. That warm, post-rocky goodness is impossible to resist.
This split EP proved to be a bit of an anomaly, though. Not being all that familiar with Lymbyc Systym, I had a hard time figuring out who was playing which songs. None of them sounded like the This Will Destroy You I knew. The album packaging didn’t make it very clear who was playing what either.
Upon further investigation, I figured it out: This Will Destroy You does the first two tracks; Lymbyc System’s are the following three. But that left me no less disappointed at what I was hearing. It’s not bad, per se, just not quite up to par, at least for TWDY. The stand-out track by far is Lymbyc Systym’s Processed Spirits.
I’ll admit Field Studies is starting to grow on me, but it’s not something I’d recommend to anyone unfamiliar with either of these bands.

Man I dont know, I gotta disagree! I think both This Will Destroy You and Lymbyc System did good on this. Granted, their individual releases are better than this, but I think its a great listen.

man i really love the 3 decimal rating system… you topped pitchfork on that one. cause when you’re trashing an album 4,615 is actually worse than 4/10. love it.
