Needless to say, we’re big fans of The XYZ Affair at Buzzgrinder for a while now. But those dudes are always giving us more of a reason to love them. Whether it’s because they’re nice guys, can get formerly semi-famous Nickelodeon stars to be in a music video, know how to really cut a rug or because they’re just good. There’s always a reason.

This time, it comes in the form of nerdocity. It’s not enough that the band was named after a political scandal from the late 18th century — and in the most unpretentious way possible. They can also throw down some mean comic book references when the need arises.

Case in point is the recently-released track No One That You Love Will Ever Die. It’s not the first comic book allusion in an XYZ Affair song, but it’s definitely the most obvious. Here’s the couplet:

I have learned from many things, capes and claws and lantern rings / In brightest day, in darkest night, we’ll all get ret-conned if we die, we’ll all get retconned by and by

Yes, retconned. Retconned.
