Morning Buzz: Isis, MxPx, Kings of Leon, Eels

:: Isis will be going out with a bang. The band is doing a 12-inch split with Melvins. So you know that will be insane.

:: Who knew? If it wasn’t for Teenage Politics, we would never have had The Jonas Brothers. Damn you, MxPx!

:: Speaking of bro bands whose last record was not that great, Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill said their next album will be more of a return to Youth & Young Manhood. I’ll try not to get my hopes up. Because I’ll almost certainly be disappointed.

:: Mark Everett is getting a small case of the Bob Pollards. He’s got another Eels album coming out Aug. 23 titled Tomorrow Morning, which will be his second full-length this year.

:: Imogen Heap says touring is no way to make a living. But when you’re playing Live Nation venues almost exclusively and you aren’t Neil Young, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get the shaft.

:: Labels hoping to break Apple’s stranglehold on music downloads are looking for a way out. Cutting their licensing fees to subscription-based sites apparently isn’t one.

:: Those two new Arcade Fire songs will be available on Aug. 2 with the rest of the album.

:: Random tracks that don’t suck:

DAMN MXPX. If only the band knew what they have done with them even existing. I’m sure if they did they would be saddened. The Jonas Brothers fuckin suck balls.

I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t care that much. If anything, they’d probably be flattered.

i don’t know. it’s about like when fall out boy said that the get up kids were their biggest influence. then one of the get up kids said, “sorry about that.”

haha. how mean. You gotta feel sorry for FOB when something like that happens. You find out your greatest influence hates you. That must hurt.

They may have just been “playing to their base”. They’d lose a good deal of fans if they said something halfway respectful about FOB…which is weird because in the grand scheme of things they play the same kind of music.

Great musicians/filmmakers/authors always create much inferior offspring. And I am not using great to describe MxPx. In the case of Magnified Plaid and JoBros, it’s a case of trash influencing garbage.

Regardless, not everyone who listened to Something to Write Home About and subsequently picked up a guitar is going to produce something worthwhile.

And as far as playing to their base, Richard Linklater gave a response very much in vein of The Get Up Kids when told that Kevin Smith’s Clerks was inspired by Slacker.
